When you place a blueprint, isn't there a button you can press that will build it if it's in your inventory?

You need construction robots and roboports.

It can be a personal roboport installed in your armor; it will use the bots and buildings in your personal inventory to build things nearby.

Or you need to be in range of a normal roboport with construction bots and the needed buildings available in logistic chests.

You can build ghosts by pressing Q then left click. But you need to be in range, and repeat the process form every ghost.

Otherwise you need construction bots as someone else explained already.

Not OP, but a noob as well. So if I understand correctly, the only way to go from a blueprint to an actual thing without robots is to press Q to go from blueprint to ghost, then left click to go from ghost to thing? I have to do that for every section of belt, every light pole, every inserter? Can I hold down Q and left mouse button and wiggle the mouse all over the blueprint or something?

There are plenty of ways to build a ghost. But in the end, without construction bots, it's manual. The ghost is just a guideline.

The only aspect that ghosts actually copy are the entity settings such as recipe, circuit network and logistic requests.
