Surgery related painful first period after laparoscopy and mirena insertion
Hi all, I had a lap excision + mirena insertion 2 weeks ago and I’m pretty sure I’ve just gotten my period— I am in extreme pain. I am just wondering if anyone else has experienced the same and if it is normal to get your period even with an IUD, I was expecting it to stop my periods like oral contraceptives. I’ve been spotting since the surgery but today the pain is extreme and much like my usual endo-caused period pain. I am worried some was missed. is this normal please let me know!!

Hello! We are in sync! My lap was on the 12th. I’ve basically been bleeding since. It was heavy then nothing then heavy then nothing for the first week but then I got my period or what feels and acts like - and it hasn’t stopped. My cramps were excruciating and so is my back pain now I’m back at work. They popped the merina in too and my follow up is tomorrow, but as far as I know he found a bunch of adhesions where my ovary was stuck to my bowel. He says he didn’t seem to find endo, but I’m confirmed adenomyosis. So the merina is pretty much my only treatment option. I’ve seen a lot of people say they had to stick out the first few months of symptoms with the marina but that it does settle down.. just depends on what you can handle I guess. I do know when I get even just a little aroused, it aches up in there. I really hate the idea of it all to be honest and I’m hoping nothing is wrong.

I hope the Mirena ends up working well for you, sorry you are in pain and back to work :( I guess the bleeding and pain for a while is normal unfortunately— sucks we gotta suffer this much 🤷♀️

It’s normal to spot a little bit for a few weeks after the insertion but the cramps (also normal) can be intense for some people. I’m personally about a month into my IUD and still experiencing intermittent, strong cramping. Mine is also on par with intense endo period pain but just slightly dialed back.
If it’s gets to be unbearable please follow up with your doc; they may be able to help or they can double check the placement of the IUD
