Beer Festival

Looking at the success that Strathaven has with its beer festival and the likes of Eaglesham and other towns holding similar events I would like to attempt to run a beer festival in our town.

The thing is location and also getting the council to agree to it.

Potential different ideas I have floating around my head.

It isn't fair that being in the second largest town in Scotland and there is no beer festival so why not organise my own.

Paisley has a very successful Food and Drink Festival every April. Why not East Kilbride?

I think the issue is Paisley has a lot of good pubs where as EK is more of a mixture of schemes/ projects of an industrial expansion and decline, we don't have many pubs or the history of paisley, and I don't think there are many craft beer enthusiasts. Spoons is your best bet with some cask ales.

You're also close to Glasgow which has multiple festivals such as Real Ale Festival and others. There's a cracking one coming up with Grunting Growler at QMU this Saturday, though not sure if you mean more real ale. I think it's 10 years of GG , full day with Beer water fights, cornhole and wings eating contest.

I like both keg craft beer and also real ale. I'm on the festival committee for the second year in a row for Glasgow Real Ale Festival.

Part of me thinks Calderglen Park would be good at the Rugby Club.

I was thinking Calderglen too, see if you could get some of the local restaurants to get involved with food stalls or something too, especially places like The Osprey, Dhamakaa, Once Upon A Table/Pergola, Arigo. There's a lot of nice food places you could try to get involved as well and make it a best of EK food and drink festival!

Any success would likely be rugby club hosting it, works welp at the likes of Whitecraigs. Thing is though by doing that there will be a lot of club support and people going purely because it's a club. They also put lots of kids entertainment, food stall, gin, etc. to get non beer drinkers in. I highly doubt there's enough demand for a beer festival organised from scratch in EK, surely CAMRA would have already thought of this given the years they have been active?

Excellent idea.

I think the showpark would be an ideal location to host it both in size and location.
