Photo Doncaster's Green Belt is a tale of two halves
Source image is from 2022 but its not changed much. The dividing line is basically the East Coast Main Line.
Some (old) notes from gov.uk
- In 2021-22, 2% of new residential addresses created were within the Green Belt. This is unchanged from the 2020-21.
- In 2021-22, 51% of new residential addresses created within the Green Belt were built on previously developed land. This is an increase on the 47% recorded in 2020-21.
- In 2022, 6.8% of land designated as Green Belt in England is of developed use with 93.1% of land of non-developed use.
- Of land designated as Green Belt, 0.3% is of a residential use with residential gardens accounting for a further 2.9%.

Sorry I'm slightly confused are you suggesting building on greenbelt land? Or suggesting we preserve it and build on brownfield sites(typically areas of east and north east Doncaster)

It's more of a discussion point really. I certainly wasn't aware just how big the "green belt" area is, or how it splits.
I do think discussion on building it, where people start clutching pearls at the prospect of any building on it can be overblown.
And if places like Mexborough and Conisbrough are hemmed in by the existence of the belt (if they are), and there's a lack of brownfield space at a reasonable price, then maybe we could look at relaxing it.
The prize on the eastern side of the city is getting the airport open and the other businesses that should come. Hopefully the green belt is one less hurdle to cross in that regard

The Greenbelt has a concept is at least 30 years out of date and needs getting rid of and replacing with something more targeted.

So glad I live in the green belt. Beautiful walk a few minutes away on foot. Let's keep it that way.

Never knew how bad this was. It's definitely causing issues for Donny. All of the new developments are facing away from the Town centre and neighbouring areas like the Dearne, Leeds, and Sheffield. Everything feels focused on the M18 and Lakeside and not the City centre itself, which is probably the Reason the Western suburbs like Edilington, Balby, and Conisbrough feel so deprived and aren't getting the money that Armthorpe, Stainforth, and Rossington are.
