Question Where can a bloke approaching 50 have a night out...?

Hello!

Heading up to Doncaster from London for the big Dave Allen fight at the weekend. And looking forward to seeing what Donny is all about.

Unfortunately, none of my mates like boxing so I'll be flying solo. Would love a few pints beforehand but imagine town will be heaving. Like decent ales (real or hipster), proper pubs and a chill atmosphere, particularly because I'll be on my own.

Late night bars are, I imagine, few and far between for a greying auld fella?

Thanks in advance for any kind souls who offer their wisdom.

By the time boxing kicks out you will be left with the busier ‘younger’ places and you will be wanting a taxi to town from the stadium.

Head to silver street or Lazarus court but neither are chilled and offer ales really.

Good night though and you will meet new mates 🤣

I'm staying in town so I'll be heading back in anyway. At that time of night, I'm okay with drinking other things!

"Good night though and you will meet new mates 🤣"

hahaha, sounds ominous.

It's how it works up here, you'll have a fair few people coming to you for a chat. I live in greater doncaster and can't walk into a pub without everyone saying hello.

Also, I’m Irish so familiar with that vibe!

If you enjoy real ales or craft beer check out The Draughtsman in the station on platform 3b, proper independent craft beer place (it’s tiny but great!), Doncaster Brewery Tap on Young Street (City Centre) locally brewed ales, The Queen Tap House in the Market Place another great real ale venue, not necessarily craft beer or real ale focused but I like Tut and Shive on St Sepulchure Gate (right outside the main shopping centre) and The Salutation on South Parade lovely, historic pub there’s been a coach house on that spot since 1745

Ah these all look brilliant! Thanks so much for taking the time to write it down. The Salutation seems to come up quite a lot. And The Draughtsman looks absolutely gorgeous (will be first stop..!)

Wool market is a good stop if you want some food too, they have several food stalls/bars plus regular live music.

Think you'll enjoy ballers, will be plenty of boxing fans watching the fight there

Get yourself to Queens in the market place. They always have a good selection of beers and ales on the go. I’m always drawn to the 9%+ stuff because I still think I’m in my 20s and can hack it!

Defo liked the look at that so good to have the seal of approval from a local. I had to swear off the high ABV stuff. As a friend of mine says about them, "Beware the loopy juice".

Mint bar On Lazarus court is usually great for people, the staff are lovely and the musics pretty good for the older generations on a Saturday.

They do a wristband, which allows you to drink for 4 hours for £20 so long as you bring back the glass you were using.

All in all, pretty good place!!
