I have one that I use for AB diamonds. I really like it but it’s too fat and hurts my hand if I use too long 🙁

I can see that being a problem. This one tapers near the bottom and it helps.

I thought it would be too big too....but held at the smaller bit near the end is completely fine for me!

Is it the Artdot pen? I ask because I have 3 different vacuum pens and it's by far the smallest.

Same artdot with rabbit. It works great! But I guess arthritis or carpal tunnel syndrome causes a little pain for me. And it does fine with squares for me. Skinny pens are just more comfortable. Ive been looking at other vacuum options but haven’t committed yet.

I have rheumatoid arthritis in my hands, and I use these ArtDot pens with very little pain. The thicker ones generally work best with my hands. Everyone is different and just needs to find the ones that work best for them, feels more comfortable, etc.

Same. Arthritis and carpal tunnel, sometimes I find this one not thick enough so i switch between it and a couple of thicker ones I have.

Interesting, I have arthritis and carpal tunnel and find the thicker pens give me less pain.

If you prefer thin, you may prefer the wired style vacuum pens as they are more like standard writing pens (just a bit thicker than the basic wax pens, maybe about the sane as the DAC wax pens).

Is it noisy though? I was watching videos of these ones and they sound like a vibrator

Perhaps the Picmondoo vacuum pen is an option for you. It isn't wireless, like the one OP posted, but it uses a regular pen (the ones you get with every kit).

It does have a battery so you aren't stuck to a socket to use it. And noise-wise I'd say it is background noise. There, but not annoying.

It is an ArtDot.

This is so good to know. (OP thank you for starting this discussion!)

I’m worried about that too. It seems like the thin pens are all corded. My hands have been toned by decades of knitting and crocheting so now in my 50s using a fatter object makes my hand ache. I stopped using the fat ones that came w my latest kit and went back to the old cheapy thin ones. I did order an ArtDot last night though, so sore fingers crossed lol I think the cord of the thin pens will cause me more issues. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Great news! I just bought one and can't wait

Im even more excited to hear people say it can also be used on square drills.

I use the bunny and the cat on squares with no problem. I couldn't resist buying the new duck one...should arrive in a few days.😁

2

u/SpiderTink Apr 08 '26

Ohhh now I want a duck.

2

My duck came in the other day. It seems to have a bit more suction than the bunny pen and the cat pen. The charge on the cat and the duck seems to be longer than the bunny. I have three bunnies, one cat, now a duck, lol. I love these pens! I think I'm covered in case one of them completely dies. But I do paint in two different places on my property, and I have full setups at each place and two WIP at all times, so two in one place and two in the other. A friend of mine bought a bunny pen and gave me hers because she didn't like it, though.

I’ve had mine a couple of days & love it, too. Mine is the purple with cats. Thank goodness the charge runs out. It forced me to take a break. Considering it took nearly 4 hours of solid use to run down it was a good thing. Lol 😆

Good luck! That’s one only lasted me a week

u/mialunavita Apr 09 '26

Oh no, what happened to it?

1

u/PhotographOk5093 Apr 09 '26

the tip for mine started to fray and it became nearly impossible to pick up drills. they apparently reinforced it on the newest two models. however, i got a new picmondoo (with the black resin pen) instead

I love it, I have the purple one with the cat on it, dealing with the wax or puddy was one of the things that made me quit DPing for 2 years. I just started my first one, and it's so much better.

To anyone wondering, it's almost silent; there is a slight vibration to the pen, and it is a fat pen but it fits well in my hand, so I like it.

Did you give it a try with square drills ? I’ve been thinking about getting one but I only see review pics that include round drills 😊 thanks and happy painting !

3

u/HorrorSea9319 Apr 08 '26

I‘ve been using the purple cat pen from Artdot for squares and it works well. I could see the tip getting worn down over time if you’re a hard placer or if you like to move the drills around with the pen tip to straighten them.

I have the newer one with a cat on it. It works great with squares.

u/Smart_Variety_5315 Apr 08 '26

Mine has a curved metal tip and I'm working on a square right now and love it

1

u/SpiderTink Apr 08 '26

I havent tried it with square drills. However the tip on this one is pretty round. I think however I saw on Amazon ones where you can change the tips.

2

u/Ok-Vegetable-4866 Apr 08 '26

I have this same pen and use it for all my square drills. It's been about a month and haven't noticed any issues that would cause me to change tips yet. But I'm not a hard placer either.

u/Jadedangel1 Apr 08 '26

Is it noisy while working with it?

3

u/SpiderTink Apr 08 '26

It wasnt. A couple of times I turned it off and didnt realize I had.

1

u/Jadedangel1 Apr 09 '26

Oh, good to know! Thanks!

2

u/Savings_Home_630 Apr 08 '26

Is it very loud? I tried some off brand from Amazon but it was WAY to loud...very annoying!

u/mialunavita Apr 09 '26

I’ve been wanting one but I’m clumsy and I’m worried about dragging the cord across a tray of diamonds and having them go flying. Do you find it is in the way at all?

1

u/Jolly-End9569 Apr 09 '26

The Artdot pens don't have a cord.

3

u/SpiderTink Apr 09 '26

Mine is showing a cord because I was using it on the charger

3

u/Jolly-End9569 Apr 09 '26

I didn't notice that at first glance and just replied. I realized it when the first reply came in. 😅

3

u/SpiderTink Apr 09 '26

Its all good. I just didnt want ppl to think they had to use it with the charging coord.

2

u/mialunavita Apr 09 '26

So the one sticking out of it must be the charger. I’m catching up lol

2

u/Jolly-End9569 Apr 09 '26

Sorry. Didn't notice that as I answered. Yes, that's the charger. You could also work with it when it's charging.

1

u/SpiderTink Apr 09 '26

The one I have can be charged then used with put being plugged in. I did however use it on the charger. I kept my pan of drills on the opposite side of the coord. I found myself for no reason holding the coird in my left hand and using the pen in my right. Im pretty clumsy also and I did pretty good

2

u/mialunavita Apr 09 '26

I have ordered one! Thank you for your review! 😊

2

u/leannesmiles Apr 09 '26

I currently don’t even dp, but i ordered it because of your post. I am obsessed with coloring atm but…. Maybe this will get me back in to dp

2

u/mortuarymeri Apr 14 '26

I’m so excited to get my baby blue duck pen but I also love the cottage vibes from your rabbit one too… hmm. Maybe I’ll get that one too. 😂

2

u/SpiderTink Apr 14 '26

I think Im going to get the baby duck one next. Teehee.

1

u/mortuarymeri Apr 14 '26

You should while they have the discount code. Only cost me 30 USD with shipping. Totally worth to never deal with wax ever again lmao

1

u/Lopsided_Young8168 Apr 08 '26

Never seen this before. I don’t have a problem with the wax. When it first came out I didn’t understand how to use it now I do. The secret is … don’t put too much on the poker.

1

u/gumdrops155 Apr 08 '26

I really like this one too! I used one of the ones that connects to a tube, and hated it because of how hard it was to manage to pull of the tube, and I didnt like that I had to replace the filter. The artdot pen is so much easier!

1

u/SuspiciousAd5801 Apr 09 '26

It looks very thick, how does it feel in your hand? Is it like a normal pen?

2

u/SpiderTink Apr 09 '26

It is thicker then a normal pen. But it does get thinner near the bottom. I deal with numbness in my hand so it helped with that.
