Tips / Tricks / Tools By the time I got them contained and labeled I didn’t want to start on the actual painting anymore 😭

Post image

The square containers I just got today, they have little jars inside with their own lids and the square snaps shut nicely and the other thing is a Day/Night pill catty my grandma doesn’t use. the carry works really well since it holds two halves in one container and snap nicely shut not coming undone if I drop it.

For what its worth, I usually unkit and then kit up in one day - and start the new kit the next. I've found the same thing as you, once I've done the work of kitting up I need a break before I start it.

Came here to say the same thing.

Unless it's something small like a coaster set, those I can kit up and make one coaster before I'm over it. For actual pictures it's kit up one day and start the image the next.

The more colours the picture has the more likely I am to want to just FINISH the kit up and go do something else. I think its partly as its fun to do the kit once all the drills are in the labelled vial, but during kit up I'm always afraid of mixing something up!

I was wondering about the coaster sets, I just started but my question was, do you seal them with something? I feel like the diamonds would fall off with condensation and all? Is there a sealer for diamond art specific?

1

u/madisonkathy Feb 07 '26

Yes. I use Lanbeide diamond painting sealer, but there are all sorts.

I use a cheap diamond painting sealer off Amazon - I've tried a few and they all appear to be much the same and work well on coasters. I use mine for both hot and cold drinks and have never had a problem with condensation of anything. Just binned the 2 the husband and I have been using since 2022 as they were past their best but that happens to normal coasters as well.

Okay great, I'll check it out . I honestly just haven't even looked yet. Thanks for answering.

u/Affectionate_Door282 Feb 07 '26

Yep I do the same!

3

u/Pisocki68 Feb 07 '26

I kit my next one when I am halfway through the current project.

4

u/Aerlinniel_aer Feb 07 '26

Smart. For me, its not possible due to only having enough vials for one or two at a time (mostly one due to size). On the other hand, that keeps me focused as I have to finish one to be able to kit up another.

3

u/Pisocki68 Feb 07 '26

I fell into the rabbit hole and have several things to kit up in. I have learned to edit my supply choices.

2

u/LizardoBombardo Feb 07 '26

Genuine question. How do you "unkit"? I loved the idea of kitting up until I realized I didn't know what others did to reuse all the little boxes. I don't like the idea of just throwing all the extra drills away, so I'm stumped and have been too afraid to ask! 😅

I got have a couple of super cheap vial cases with 140 slots. I use one for left over square drills and the other for rounds. Each visl is labeled with the colour number and I put my leftovers/spares in it. That way if I run out on a kit I can use these to make sure I have enough. Ive also used them when I wanyed to modify a picture before.

So at the end, I unkit the colours in to my spares case and take the labels off the vials so that my working case is ready for the next kit. If the drills are bad quality they get tossed though.

When I kit down I save all my leftover drills into my leftover storage bags. I use 2”x3” zipper baggies that are labeled. I remove all the labels and/or washi from my trays and storage. I also clean my trays/storage. I do not wash them with soap and water between every canvas but I will do that after 2 or 3 canvases. I do use dryer sheets to wipe them all down. And just basically do an overall clean up and refresh of my desk/craft area.

I actually love taking my time on separating and labeling :)

11

u/Maldrich487 Feb 07 '26

Me too. For DAC kits I use the boxes/containers on the left & for Diamond Dotz kits I use the ones on the right. I do it right when I get it in the mail usually so my stash is already ready to go lol 😂

7

u/Bobby-Co Feb 07 '26

Me as well. I enjoy the setup process 😍

4

u/MysticPainWhy Feb 07 '26

Thats so cute and pretty!! I love ❤️ will definitely be investing in actual labels instead of cutting the bag number off and taping it lmao

6

u/Not-That_Girl Feb 07 '26

Label are GREAT! I only use reprinted numbers Nd letters, but I got the in a pack of several differnt colours, so much better than my spider-scrawl

1

u/honeybunloverr Feb 07 '26

Tbh I find it much easier to just write them down than cutting and sticking them on 😭 but either way I find both satisfying to do

18

u/nghtmareb4coffee Feb 07 '26

Kitting is my favorite part 😂 if I could kit them up for someone I would!

10

u/Maldrich487 Feb 07 '26

Me too! I kit up all my mom's for her. She's been doing it for almost a year & still hasn't had to kit any up 😂

9

u/-beastlet- Feb 07 '26

I wish I could have you do mine. It's the one thing I don't like.

2

u/paisleyhunter11 Feb 08 '26

I would hire you! I do not like kitting up or down

16

u/AutomaticDeal9615 Feb 07 '26

I most be the odd ball, cause I love kitting up!!!!! 🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪😜😜😜😜😜😜😜😜🤪🤪

9

u/Comprehensive-Menu44 Feb 07 '26

Prepping is one of my favorite parts! I’ll spend a whole evening on that one task and it’s so relaxing for me

7

u/-beastlet- Feb 07 '26

I hate kitting up too. The best thing I've done so far to make it less tedious was to buy removable labels that you can write on, so removing the old labels isn't such a trial. I use the removable ones even when the kit comes with its own labels.

5

u/MysticPainWhy Feb 07 '26

I probably made it more complicated by just cutting the little baggies number label off and taping it to the containers. lol we live and we learn, it’s better than spilling them by trying to keep them in the baggies at least 🫠😂

10

u/-beastlet- Feb 07 '26

Wow, cutting out the labels is a lot of work! I’m impressed you had the patience. I just handwrite it on my labels.

10

u/MysticPainWhy Feb 07 '26

I just didnt want to get up again from my comfortable spot oof lol, I will be investing in removable labels from now on. your kits are so nicely lined up and neat! I did also probably waste time trying to color coordinate the 9 squares like a make up palette lmao

u/mamamia6212 Feb 07 '26

Great suggestion! Thank you for sharing ❤️

u/New_Bicycle4787 Feb 07 '26

I loathe kitting up so much. I bought 120 clear screw top containers and went through my next 4 projects and got all the symbols. I did 1-9, A-Z, a-z, common symbols I’ve seen and ones my next projects for sure had. Now I don’t have to relabel every time!!

10

u/Next-Rock-4076 Feb 07 '26

I'm a little odd in the fact that I just kit up each color as I need it. I don't have the patience to do it all at once 😅

4

u/True-Zookeepergame64 Feb 07 '26

I went to get done admiring your hard work you'll start on the canvas. I'm sure it'll be beautiful.

5

u/Present_Cucumber2120 Feb 07 '26

I tend to kit up before I finish my current WIP so that is less likely to happen.

4

u/Maldrich487 Feb 07 '26

Me too but I do it when I get them in the mail. I have probably 15-18 all ready to go lol 😂 7-9 are DAC kits & the rest are Diamond Dotz kits.

5

u/Present_Cucumber2120 Feb 07 '26

I have over 400 kits (most budget) so I can’t prep them all. But many of my early 30x40cm ones are since they didn’t require as much room for the drills.

6

u/Maldrich487 Feb 07 '26

Woah! Yeah that's a lot. I stopped for now because I have so many containers full that I don't need any more. I seemed to have forgotten that all those containers are going to be empty at some point & I'm going to have over 100 to fill again 🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️😂

6

u/Present_Cucumber2120 Feb 07 '26

Yeah I’ve bought a few but only ones I really really love now. My partner likes to point out I have more than I can finish in my lifetime. I know he’s right too.

1

u/momba01 Feb 08 '26

You would probably hate to see a box of about 1200 empty cylinders taking up space in my room 😂🫣

5

u/BlastedNeutrophil Feb 07 '26

I recognize the kits from Dollar Tree! I personally love the square ones. I have a DP that has 45 colors and I just love switching from container to container. Like I stack them up and then say I need #10, I know it’s the second in the stack. It’s kind of satisfying lol

3

u/MysticPainWhy Feb 07 '26

they are, good eye! 🥳 I can’t lie a lot of the time might have gone to color coordinating to make it look like an eyeshadow palette lol, only the top one worked out though with its greens to blues 💅 I prefer smaller diamond art projects so I don’t think I’ll ever need more than six square ones in the future but who knows 💃🫂(sorry a, half awake and feeling giddy lol)

4

u/Gold-Stable7109 Feb 07 '26

I’ve never done this, I just choose a colour and pour it into a little bag with the number sharpied on 😅

4

u/BJntheRV Feb 07 '26

That's a great idea for repurposing a pill organizer. That said the double containers on the other one would drive me batty having to open two things every time I need a single color.

3

u/MysticPainWhy Feb 07 '26

oooo you only need to open one since they have day/night lids, or if you meant the square one (sorry Im half asleep working through a lot of spelling errors lol brain empty) then when I’m using it I just have the big square open so o can grab whichever one I need 🫂

3

u/BJntheRV Feb 07 '26

Yeah, I meant the square one would drive me batty. Sorry, I should have been more clear. The dual sided pill organizer is genius use.

4

u/MysticPainWhy Feb 07 '26

your fine honestly I probably shouldn’t be up right now but the art was calling me lol i always thought her pill organizers are cute cause she likes getting the ones that brighten up her day/night she’s so cute I love her 😍

3

u/BJntheRV Feb 07 '26

I'm with her. We all should opt for things that brighten our day. And now they brighten yours and make you think of her when you use them!

And, we've all had nights like that. Part of me wants to get up and go work on my painting, but also I know of I just put my phone down and pick up my kindle I'd probably be asleep in 15 minutes.

3

u/Beautiful_Sentence49 Feb 07 '26

I liked kitting up but I also felt the same lol like alright I’ll actually start tomorrow

3

u/Amazing_Ebb536 Feb 07 '26

Big mood lol I usually unkit and then kit the new set, then either take an hour break or wait until the next day. If I start on the same day I kit, I usually do less than I prefer tbh

3

u/Simmer_Girl Feb 07 '26

It happens! I’ve felt this way many times.

3

u/Maldrich487 Feb 07 '26

Kitting up is my favorite part lol 😂

3

u/AddysNana071821 Feb 07 '26

I reuse my jars, they're always numbered 1 thru whatever. So just put the drills in the coordinating number. The only thing I cut is the coordinating color code inside each of the jars so when I'm done I can add them to my stock. It cuts down prep time a lot. I bought the case at 5 below for 5 dollars, but if you want to pay more for a bigger one they sell them on Amazon. But for 10 dollars I have enough jars for a larger project.

3

u/ScheduleOne4207 Feb 07 '26

I love kitting up, but I only have the energy, usually, to kit down and kit up in one sitting. I generally won’t start a new project the same day that I kit up. Unless it’s a coaster or magnet set

3

u/Objective-Bug-1941 Feb 07 '26

My business idea for school was selling kits that were already kitted up in labeled containers, with pricing reflecting the labor and containers.

I did not get a good grade because they wisely pointed out that people prefer to pay less money for things, not more.

So the next year, I submitted a service of $5, you send the cheap kit to me, and I'll kit it up for you, then bring it to your house. And they told me I wasn't charging enough for my services.

Anyway, I love the kitting up part. I'll do it for you lol

2

u/BlastedNeutrophil Feb 07 '26

That’s so cute. An idea I got from a custom DP is pre-printed labels:stickers. It makes kitting up easier bc I don’t have to buy extra labels and I don’t have to write anything. Just match sticker to label and kit up. It’s my first big DP so I was surprised to find out not all big DP come with pre-printed labels!

3

u/Objective-Bug-1941 Feb 07 '26

I was trying to come up with ideas of things I would want to do lol The winning proposals for the business contest at school were a real estate/AirBNB copycat and a doordash copycat respectively. I didn't enter a third time.

Pre-printed labels are so convenient, I haven't seen those in person yet.

3

u/Screamatstarz Feb 07 '26

Always the WORST part! I always spend my first day organizing and starting the next day too.

1

u/LadyLizzita Feb 07 '26

Haha that’s me with every new canvas!

1

u/DeenaDeals Feb 07 '26

I use the trays I need and cut a corner of each bag. Each bag gets a tray. I have a wooden stand with trays in it.

1

u/Avril_Blackrose Feb 07 '26

I just keep it simple with the pill like boxes.

1

u/Fearless-Register-39 Feb 08 '26

That's OK start fresh another day!!

1

u/Spare-Shower-3929 Feb 09 '26

Buying the craft / supplies then preparing the project / doing the project are all different interests lol

1

u/bluntskillkoalas Feb 11 '26

This is so real bc I hate kitting up and down ok

1

u/FreyjaFabulous Feb 13 '26

Man, I just put them in little baggies with the package info cut out and stuck inside lol I do a lot of cheaper kits that don’t use the standard color numbers though, and I do intend to sort out my leftover drills into containers at some point.
