They always have to have a bad guy on the show. Before Keith, Sig was the one that bragged about wanting to replace his crew with robots, threatening to throw, and possibly doing it, cameras overboard, etc. People forget the first couple of seasons.

Yes, Keith is a hot head, he's stubborn, and probably has more than his fair share of quirks. He demands a lot of his crew, but I've never heard him brag about working his crew into a zombie like state to where they just keep working out if reflex.

Keith drives me nuts but I always remember two things. He testified before congress fighting for hard working fishermen of Alaska. And there was also the time he had to call the coast guard for a greenhorn that got severely dehydrated and almost died. Before they got him on the helicopter Keith held the guys junk so he could pee.

I go back to this. Back in 2012, he and several others had a person Facebook profiles they used. So I was "friends" with a few captains and crew. I blew out my knee. Keith saw my post and took the time to wish me well. It's hard for me to be too critical of him. I think he's a bit of Dr Jekyll and a bit of Mr Hyde. He cares but can be a bit grating.

Look here's the thing. These guys work in an absolutely miserable industry. Long days, shit food most the time, crews quarters that smell, etc etc. you do this year after year and eventually they stack up and make you hard and tough to people's emotions and "bullshit" but have a big heart for the things you value.

It's hard to describe I guess but it's the same in automotive back when. Hard labor brings out the worst and the best in you.

I can understand this. My issue is that the editors have a tendency to get creative with their cuts to make some captains look to be better or worse than they really are. People rag on Keith, but I was around long enough to remember when Discovery ran forums about their shows. Before they added Keith, people would say that DC should take Sig's boat away from him. I used to mock those people saying that Sig owned the boat. Once Keith came along, suddenly Sig was the greatest.

I remember that ep. Keith was legit SCARED when he said “I’m calling the coasties.” And I felt bad for the ‘horn who just wanted to stay and was apologizing to Keith and Keith was just like “go get yourself taken care of.”

I always felt like Keith was a good guy that was edited into a jerk for the show.

We see many examples of how much he cares for anyone abort his vessel. Do I like everything about the guy? Definitely not, but at the end of the day, I think he is a good man

Yeah, anytime somebody wants to partner with him or ask him something, it's like they all forgot the last 10 times he screwed them.

Remember Sig's suggestion box long ago? Somebody had put in that the captain should shower more often? The box left after that.

I don't remember that right offhand.

All I'll say is, they talk smack about Keith but, a lot of times, they come to him when they need someone to help them in a pinch. Half the time Sig just ignores them.

Yeah I remember Sig grinning about the crew working 30 hours straight and that he was moving pots and they were gonna have to work another 18 hours.

The way Sig & Edgar treated Jake when he was young and trying so hard shattered me. Then the Jake’s traded ships and Sig got a wake up call fearing what a great mentor Phil was and he didn’t want to go back.

So, all greenhorns get messed w/. It's a right of passage to becoming a deck hand. Edgar and sig taught Jake how to be a captain. They didn't have to do this, since he isn't family and would never take over the northwestern. The drama w Jake and Matt in the early seasons was dumb, though. Sig seems to show love via tough love. Edgar showed love via jokes, pranks, and at times, serious convos and yelling.

I was pissed at him for moving Jake’s “bait pot” over the border so Jake got empty pots while Sig’s were full.

But remember Jake put it there first so Sig wouldn't get any crab. Maybe if Jake would quit trying to bite the hand that fed him...he's always try to f over Sig. Jake just gets mad because Sig always catches him doing something and then uses it to A) work against him or B) Uses it to help him I.E. the bait pot. Sig has been around a lot of years. He has seen more ways to screw with people than Jake forgot. So dont get your panties in a wad because Sig beat Jake at his own game The best prank tho was when johnathan turned off his epirb and the lights, and lit about 2 dozen Chinese lanterns and sent them toward Sig. Omg I still laugh, Sig saw those things screaming what are they, what the hell are they as he's trying to hide under his chair!!! I was dying, then the time bandit lit up and I think sig had to change his pants.🤣🤣🤣

His bio daughter is actually gorgeous and an attorney. I have always found it interesting how men can abandon their children for the offspring of their new wife , adopt them, and teat them better than their own.

I think John Hillstrand and Jake are the exceptions. Both seem like genuinely good people. Unpopular opinion, but I feel the same about Keith.

Right. I just made a post about getting tired of Sig stealing & when someone does it to him, He gets all kinds of ticked off, yelling & and then trying to call the other captain and getting all pissed off when they don't answer. I'm just getting really sick and tired of it.

THIS!!! I watch it with my elderly mom; other night, that sweet old lady goes, “Why is Sig SUCH a fu#%ing pu$$y…? He constantly screws people over—giggling as he does it, acting like his d&$k is bigger—and then pouts and bitches the second anybody does it back to him, even as payback! I f**ing *hate whenever they show him…” (For the record, she’s old school prim & proper 😂😂)

Also, Keith can absolutely be an ass…but, if you really think about it, he’s only a dick to people & other captains who have wronged or disrespected him. I’ve seen from S9 to current so far and can’t think of a time he wasn’t at least cordial and professionally nice to anybody on the front end, even that dumbass Elliott. I also feel like he cares about his crew’s safety like they’re his children; always gotten the vibe most caps “care” SO MUCH…insofar as their legal liability (obviously there are exceptions like the Hillstrands, Jake, etc.).

TLDR: Sig is the worst, Keith is actually pretty cool.
