Hear me out, this might be a little broken, idk.

Make the player receive an emblem.

it could be :

"0: add 3 mana of any color. If a player doesn't have the Debt emblem, player receives Debt emblem. Activate only once per turn"

Debt Emblem:

At begining of upkeep, player must pay X or lose the game. X equal the number of times emblem owner resolved Predatory Loan activated ability.

Any thoughts?

You can simplify by just making one new emblem per activation. (Each emblem says "pay 1 or lose".)

I tought about it, but I'm not sure if there are any cards out there that could discount that sort of effect.

If there is a card that say anything along the lines "if an effect has you pay any amount of mana, you can pay that amount minus one" Then you would be able to take as many loans as possible, since in your example each instance of the emblem would only charge you one mana each time.

But it's possible that, that isn't a thing, so, idk.

There is no such effect. Abilities are way too varied for such effects to work within the rules.

My first thought was, Proliferate would be devastating against something like that. Than I read all the comments on interaction with it, that's what made me think of an emblem.

Yeah or this + Solimonity just breaks the original card.

Emblems are definitely smarter way to go since there is no way to remove them (I think)

Or simply just do what a specific Chandra does and just have it be “at the end of your turn pay 1 or lose the game”
