Relocation/Moving Living in Newport

Hi everyone. I currently live downtown, but am beginning to look at potential places to buy in the next year or two.

Some neighborhoods I love are East Walnut/O’bryonville, Columbia Tusculum, and Oakley, but recently the East Row Historic District in Newport has really caught my eye. Appears to be reasonably affordable depending on the street, but I am a sucker for the old buildings and the local spots are great.

Any input on those who live/have lived there? How is commuting into the city?

Any insight would be great!

Don't forget Covington. Similar architecture and very walkable to bars/restaurants and across the bridge to downtown.

No doubt! Looks to be a little more expensive, but I absolutely love it over there as well

I live relatively nearby and the more time I spend walking, driving and cycling in East Newport the more I wish I would not have put so much money into my existing home, and instead purchased a home in East Row.

I run through there all the time from downtown, and I love it every time. Such an underrated part of town.

Oh! Also check out areas of Bellevue. It’s adjacent to Newport and has a lot going for it.

Maybe Ward or Van Voast, but the rest of Bellevue is really spotty when it comes to improving or maintaning nice homes. Bellevue is great for a lot of reasons, but East Row is another level.

I tend to agree. I love specific parts of Bellevue, but I just don’t see the investment to be as smart. Still a great option though!

I'm obsessed with East Row Historic District. I live in Newport (currently renting) and I WFH so I don't have to deal with commuting during rush hour so I can't speak to that, but it's incredibly convenient location-wise. I love being able to walk across the river to get downtown and avoid dealing with parking. Most places I need to go are a very short drive. The Southbank Shuttle is great, too.

I'm also considering buying in the not-too-distant future and if I can swing it, and somewhere near East Row would be a dream.

I would probably take a drive during rush-hour, both in and out of Newport, for a couple days to see if you can tolerate that for the next couple of years.

Probably not a bad idea. Was curious if the demo of the 4th street bridge into Covington is causing any issues.

I’m not sure about that bridge, but if there’s any construction on the Brent Spence, or “another” fire on 471, then your commute is about 20 minutes.

But most of the time it’s great! I lived down there a few years ago, and worked just across from the purple people bridge. On nice days I could walk to work.

You will feel it right now, but it's still not that bad. If you start from "not bad" when the bridge is out and think forward 2.5 years just imagine how nice the commute will be.

I live in the East Row, recently signed a lease for a 1 bedroom plus office in an old victorian home. It’s honestly so lovely living here. I’m 2 blocks from the river and the levee yet on a tree lined street with friendly neighbors. I can walk to coffee shops, the riverfront parks, and so much more. It’s honestly the sweet spot, especially if you work downtown but crave a quiet existence. 5-stars, best place I’ve lived in Greater Cincinnati thus far!

That’s awesome to hear! It really is such a gem, and happy others feel the same!

I live in Newport and commute to Findlay Market via 471. 8 minutes. If that bridge is bad, the Taylor Southgate or Roebling are alternates.

Shhhhh! Taylor Southgate is my private bridge.

This is what I was hoping to hear! I’ve lived in Oakley, Mt Adams and downtown and love all three, but for some reason Newport is super enticing! Thanks for the insight 🫡

Its probably the best commute I can imagine? Its walking distance, you can take the Southbank shuttle or its like a less than 5 minute drive. It takes me 8 minutes or so to get to uc from the er. Mason or west Chester are about 30 minutes if not rush hour, around 50 to 60 minutes if it is

Greatest neighborhood. Plenty of community events. We also have 2 turkeys in the neighborhood and plenty of friendly stray cats we take care of.

If the Big Mac bridge is backed up in the morning, just hop on 471 at Bellevue or take Southgate into the city

I live on Monmouth and drive to the west side. It’s never been bad, going across the Big Mac is slower but never stand still. I love Newport it’s so quiet but still close to the city with plenty to do!
