Question rooster behavior?

one of our roosters (one of two, not the head honcho) will constantly squeeze himself in between a table and a crate in a very small space. he will make ungodly noises until his hens come and gather around to check on him. sometimes he scratches the crate and pecks at it but other times he just lays there, loafed up. anyone able to explain this behavior? is he just acting weird to get the hens’ attention? 🤣

As others have said, he is probably calling out that he’s identified a good nest candidate! Also, he is such a handsome rooster! What a lovely little guy with such a rich baritone cluck!

lol I literally just told someone I hadn’t seen any rooster behaviors from my silkie yet (3 months old), and THAT DAY I heard him make that noise to show some food to a hen… lol god damn it lol

It’s a cute sound. I had about 100 pet chickens with about half being roosters so I heard a lot of rooster talk. They got along great. Probably because there were so many they didn’t get picked on. My lab Leo likes breaking up fights by getting in between the roosters like a boxing referee. I need to videotape him doing it. He hates chicken violence.
