Question rooster behavior?

one of our roosters (one of two, not the head honcho) will constantly squeeze himself in between a table and a crate in a very small space. he will make ungodly noises until his hens come and gather around to check on him. sometimes he scratches the crate and pecks at it but other times he just lays there, loafed up. anyone able to explain this behavior? is he just acting weird to get the hens’ attention? 🤣

It looks like he's tidbitting. He wants the hens to come check out what he's seeing. He might see something you don't, like mites or other wee bugs.

Sometimes they lie too. They do that in front of me before I give them food and pretend to their wives they found it

God i just love birds sometimes.

I don't have a chicken but I have a parrot, they are such complicated and fascinating creatures

My rooster will sometimes call over the entire flock for a singular leaf that he sees fall onto the ground

Yep, I have a roo who intentionally tidbitted to make the ladies come running over. Then he would immediately try to mate with them. They figured him out pretty quickly!
