I heard one time it makes them easier to handle for the growers. Which almost makes sense but you’d think they’d have better ways. Regardless it’s used sooo many times there has to be some kind of logical reason.

The one and only reason they do it is for sales. The bright colours attract attention, and the majority of buyers fall for it. Nothing to do with handling, which wouldn’t work anyway because you risk pulling the spines off.
