Turista Ajánlás | Tourist Recommendation Airbnb requesting personal data
Booked an Airbnb in Budapest and just received a message saying they legally need to scan and record all guests’ personal data/passport details into a Hungarian government database called VIZA before check-in.
They sent a full notice saying accommodation providers can even refuse check-in if you don’t provide ID.
Just wanted to check — is this actually normal in Hungary/Airbnbs there? Never had anything this formal before when travelling.
Don't really like sharing personal data that deep.

Yes, it is normal, but you don't have to send a photo of your documents to the host if you don't want to.
You can ask for a link in an application called VENDEGEM from the host, and self scan your ID, or you can wait till you meet personally and he can scan it there.
