Breakfast randomness

Just finished watching the episode where Mike Brady wins father of the year. Curious as to why he came in the back way and ruin the surprise as opposed to the front. There was never any rhyme or reason as to how the family entered the house. I hardly use my front door; always through the garage. Aaaaanyway, just thinking out loud while I heat up these leftovers

because that's what the script called for.

Exactly. This is the way sit-coms work. I have a few shows that I watch regularly and have noticed that people enter homes via whichever door fits the story line.

it really is the simplest answer

Yup. Who’s the Boss and Full House both did it

There's always at least one "because it's in the script" dud in every group who lacks creativity and imagination when discussing these old shows.

and there's always at least one "there's gotta be a reason!" dud in every group who desperately tries to make things make logical sense even though the simple fact is that the characters act the way they do because they're written that way. in this case they needed a gag where everyone was facing the wrong way, so they had mike come in from an unexpected direction.

Like in Family Ties, when everyone is in the kitchen, whoever enters comes to the back door…if in the living room, the front door.

Entering through the front never made sense since the driveway was out back.

Exactly. The garage was in the back of the house. As an architect he probably designed it that way for some reason.

He used the same logic he applied to designing a house with two bedrooms for the kids 😂

And being an architect he didn't put a toliet in kids bathroom lol

Same with King of Queens. Garage was in an alley in the back but they used the front door half the time

Mike was getting his exercise.

For him it would be weird to ever leave or enter the front door. They park the cars in the back.

i've seen establishing shots with one of the cars parked out front

Yeah, he’s come and gone from both the back and front doors, a) depending on where he’s parked, and b) depending on the plot of the episode. 😄

Seriously WTF. He always randomly did that but you never see him park out front. Maybe he wanted to catch Carol in the act of something.

There were a few episodes where he’s parked out front and comes in the front door.

The beginning shot of the house sometimes shows his car or the station wagon pulling up to the front, but I can't recall if it typically matches the events directly thereafter. I don't think anyone back then realized we'd still be watching decades later, analyzing each episode like detectives on a murder case.

Haha, yeah, now that you mention it, I can’t remember if those “parked out front” episodes showed him coming through the front door, and same with parking on the driveway. I love your comment about “analyzing each episode like detectives on a murder case!” Who’d have thought? 😄

They enter the house whichever way is the most convenient for the scene. Sometimes the front door, sometimes the back door.

One name. He was trying to catch Carol with "Tank"

Seriously though, can you blame her!?

Yes I can blame her. Tank was a dork

OK! OK! Blame her.

Didn't Mike say, "What the hell's going on here?" in that episode?

He said "What the? A surprise party?"

2

I always wondered that! I could have sworn he said hell.

u/brneyedgrrl 12d ago

I always thought that, but I think he says, "What the devil's going on here?" I wanna believe it's 'hell' tho...

He changed shirts in the garage to hide the smell of cologne from his nighttime ventures.

Yeah, like working nights at Bebe Galini’s apartment!

Happy Cake Day! Mike was a douche in that episode. And he always came in through the family room when it was inconvenient for everyone else. Otherwise he'd come in the front door.

Mike was a back door man.
