LGBT Is it really that bad to prefer bls over gls?

Hi 👋 this question plagues my mind and lot. I have been reading forums, researching and just scrolling to find answers on whether preferring to read bl over gl is that bad as persons say it is. I don't have anything again lesbians, it doesn’t feel off putting when I see them featured in books I read or the series I watch, in fact I find their relationships cute, beautiful written and engaging. Girl love was actually the very first queer literature I read on although not extensively, I have even been interested in starting a Gl manhwa but I just enjoy bls more. I am not one to force my preferences on someone, I respect that everyone has a right to like whatever they want to read whether it be gls, bls or straight romances as long as they are forcing upon anyone. Is it really awful and wrong in preferring bls as everyone perceives it to be ?

LGBT [KOREA] '3670' Movie Trailer - A closeted gay North Korean defector enters Seoul's queer community

Despite the close bonds among fellow defectors, Cheol-jun—a young North Korean defector—felt isolated while hiding his gay identity. Finally, he takes his first step into South Korea’s vibrant gay community and forms close ties after meeting Yeong-jun at a casual gathering. Yet, a trivial misunderstanding shatters these fragile bonds.

3670 was released on September 3rd in Korea and is currently being shown at film festivals around the world. It won four awards at the Jeonju International Film Festival, and the reviews I've read have been really good. Hopefully we'll be able to stream it online soon!

By the way, the meaning of the title is “Meet in front of Exit 6 at Jongno 3-ga Station at 7 p.m,” a coded phrase often used by members of the Korean queer community.

Once again I’m reminded of this photoshoot.

As a queer woman myself, I am always touched seeing how EarthMix never fail to speak out about marriage equality and queer rights openly. They’re amazing humans who are genuine and kind. Such celebrities truly deserve recognition and respect 🫶🏻

I did a search and didn’t find a post about this series, so here I go…it’s not technically BL, but it is about a high school BL writer, and it is very funny…the four actors playing the teachers are very handsome and there are a lot of BL moments…so I’m enjoying it a lot and figured I would share it.

Here’s the MDL link:

SYNOPSIS (GagaOOLala):

Yuma Kasuga and Itsuki Hasegawa go viral on social media and are seen as the ideal same-sex couple. Hoping to help more people understand the lives of LGBTQ+ partners, Yuma agrees to take part in a documentary. However, before filming begins, the two have already broken up. To complete the shoot, Yuma convinces Itsuki to keep playing the role of a loving couple. But what does the camera truly capture: real happiness, or a carefully staged lie? One man longs to be the perfect partner, while the other is suffocating under the weight of an idealized relationship. Add to that a director who has no idea what is really going on, and this 100-day documentary becomes more than just a record of their lives. Is it a countdown to their final breakup, or the beginning of something new? Can they finally face the truth in each other's hearts?

✩ Adapted from the acclaimed novel by LGBTQ+ author Naoto Asahara, starring Kan Ichiro and Ito Kentaro in a buzzworthy BL drama.

✩ Award-winning creators Shogo Kusano and Naoyuki Miura team up with the production company behind "Drive My Car" for this highly anticipated Japanese series.

LGBT A soft message to this community uwu

Thank you so much to all the nice people in this wonderful subreddit for letting us BL aficionados speak our minds and be fans of the genre! It's been a bit difficult as a gay man in their 30s to maintain healthy fanaticism of the BL genre without being on the receiving end of tirades/insults—which sadly come more often than not from other gay men—so it's nice to have a community that celebrates a healthy enjoyment of BL. Overall, I'm very grateful to have this space, and to all the nice people I hope you're all having great days and you always have delicious meals for the rest of your lives!

It’s honestly wild to me that no one talks about this movie.

Min-su, a gay man marries a lesbian woman Hyo-Jin they both have motivations for their fake marriage, Min-su wants to please his parents and Hyo-Jin wants to adopt a child to raise with her female lover. Soon they realize just how hard it is to fake a marriage and their personal lives start getting in the way.

People treat it as if it's one of those soap-operas that happen to include a gay side couple. Now, I won't lead you on, this show doesn't just has two guys chasing each other through the whole movie. Their relationship is central, and they don’t shy away from it, but it’s only one part of what the movie is doing. It has so much more to offer and it is also a beautiful example of how comedy and tragedy can go hand in hand and elevate each other further.

At its core, it’s about gay people navigating a world that isn’t built for them and it handles that without ever feeling preachy. The message is clear, the direction feels intentional, and the characters are genuinely sharp and witty. It actually feels like a movie with something to say. and the things characters do beyond the screen matter. a story at the very least should make you believe for a fleeting second that the characters are living actual lives instead of acting a script. this show manages that very well...

More than anything, it has soul. That’s the part I like the most. A lot of newer dramas (and honestly even some well-known older ones) don’t feel this complete. It hit me on a personal level, and I really wish more people would give it a chance. If this sounds even remotely like your kind of movie, you should check it out.

I honestly have so much to say about the movie but I didn't want to drown you in details also my notes aren't very organized right now lol

LGBT Love in the Big City is not a BL and Expectations Spoiler

LITBC is not in my opinion a BL and I've been surprised and confused as someone who read the novel to see it discussed here and elsewhere as if it is. I know initially it would be discussed using the LGBT flair but I've seen it tagged as Korean BL. I think this has lead to many people having unfair expectations and criticisms of it. It is not a romance, and I think it is unfair to judge it by the expectations of that genre. This is a raw, authentic drama based on LGBT literature written by an LGBT person. The novel is heavy, cynical, and reads like an autobiography. In life you are not guaranteed your true love happy ending. I think it's deeply unfair to insinuate that it's problematic for LGBT dramas to have unhappy endings or to reflect the loneliness inherent in the experience of being LGBT. I understand if you are like myself a queer person who finds solace in the fantasy of true queer love and happiness that we get in BL. Maybe you are upset because that is the kind of stuff that you expected going into this show, but this is not the show's fault but rather whoever falsely advertised this show as BL to you. Furthermore, if we fully extend the logic of its problematic and homophobic and insinuates that queer joy does not exist unless there is a happy ending then we end up somewhere where every LGBT story has to have a happy ending. And that would be odd. Queer joy exists in the real world and there's a lot of queer devastation and loneliness as well. Both should be reflected in media and stories. The depiction of one does not negate the reality of the other.

Let's just take these stories in as they are. Adjust your expectations if you thought this was a BL. If you don't want to watch something sad, then maybe don't watch this. And please, let's stop blaming it for not being what you expected it to be and simply judge it on its own merits.

Mine's Diginho and Chul from the currently-airing Brazilian-Korean series 'My Magic Closet'. I really love their dynamic and chemistry in the limited screentime that they have. Also, Chul's smile after the kids is too die for - it is the most precious smile I've seen in a while.

SYNOPSIS:

Yuma Kasuga (Kentaro Ito) and Itsuki Hasegawa (Kanichiro), a same-sex couple, go viral on social media for their “adorkable” interview about the partnership oath system for sexual minorities. They later receive an offer to be in a documentary filming their life together for 100 days, and Yuma, wanting to broaden people’s understanding of homosexuality, accepts. By then, however, Yuma and Itsuki have already broken up. Yuma persuades Itsuki, and the two pretend to be a loving couple in front of the camera. Unaware of this, the film production company's director, Shiho Kayano (Yui Narumi), is eager to record them as they truly are… Yuma, who strives to be the perfect partner, while Itsuki feels suffocated by meeting such standards. What does the camera capture: a happy everyday life, or a cleverly crafted lie? The two men’s lies and true feelings intertwine in this 100-day chronicle of their lives.

Do yourself a favor and watch it blind. Don't watch the trailer or read the synopsis. All you need to know is you can watch it on the same places where you watch BL dramas and movies when they're not leg*lly accessible to you. Or better yet, check your local theaters if the movie is being shown there.
