No bodhran yet, but I’m prepared.
Just made a “hot rod” tipper. Drum arriving tomorrow!

I made a tipper following the same tutorial! It's decent, but a little too light for my liking--can't really get a nice THUMP out of it. Also, the middle ones would start to slide out after playing for awhile. I'd drop a heavy amount of glue into the middle of the rods under the grip if I were to make one like this again.
I also bought one online that was similar and put nice little divots in my brand new bodhran, so the advice about the bamboo is worth heeding.
If you don't have a bodhran yet, no need to wait to start practicing, just grab a pizza box and go to town!

Dont use that tipper on your drum youll scratch the shit out of the skin. If you're gonna use hotrods try to make sure the ends are well rounded.

Hrrrmm. I spent a few hours rounding the ends with sandpaper... according to the tutorial I used ?
If you look at the first picture at full size, hopefully you will see that. Looks similar to the HR3 tipper here: https://www.tippermaker.de/en/hedrods-2/

A problem with bamboo is that the fibres are still scratchy when they are rounded. Some people report that these wear the drum skin and they use wood rods instead. Others use them happily.

Thanks for the heads up.
I did some further digging and found some e of the web lore around this… and binned the tipper. Not the end of the world 😊

To say that's a homemade tipper and you've not actually got a bodhrán yet, that's really impressive
