Howard is embarrassed because his girlfriend now makes more money than he does.

Also listen to the lines Bernadette says when she's gives it to him. Something along the lines of, I want my baby to have something pretty. Which is classic line of a guy saying it to his lady, further showing how roles are reversed.

He found the gift emasculating.

He feels bad that he makes less than his girlfriend

He felt like he was going to be the "trophy husband" that gets nice gifts and is arm candy at events.

She didn't necessarily do anything wrong, but he felt like she emasculating him.

I wouldn't go as far as to say trophy husband but she would be like sugar mama for sure

Im saying he felt that way, not that she meant it that way.

He grew up thinking the man takes care of the woman and he felt weird that it was the other way around.

Okay, you're right. Just because i would never consider him a trophy husband doesn't mean he wouldn't consider himself one.

Lol 😂 yeah I don't consider him one either but he would.

Did he not specifically say why he was upset? Lol like literally he told them he felt emasculated, like she was flaunting that she makes more money than him lol

Genuinely blows my mind how often people in subs about shows don't know/understand things that are shown to you directly on screen with people explaining it at the same time 😂

Did he not specifically say why he was upset?

He didn't, but it was patently obvious. It seems, however, that some non-Americans might not be familiar with the trope.

You're right my b, I could've sworn by the end of the episode Howard and Bernie talked about why he was upset, but yeah... Really shouldn't be that hard to figure out the joke of everyone getting it but Sheldon as it's pretty obvious that it's a "bad thing" for a man's wife to make more than him for some dumb reason in American society, although I think that's starting to die out now 🤷‍♂️

What the f is a plot summary

4

u/ChipEnvironmental420 1d ago

A summary of the plot (story) of the episode?

I'm starting to understand why you have trouble grasping the concepts of the show lol

Nah I don't think so, that's why I just stopped responding cuz you can lead a horse to the point, but you can't make them understand it 😂

I always equated it to a retirement watch - that he no longer had to work because of her money.
