Fit check: ergobaby original

I picked this up at consignment sale so no manual! He is 4mo and probably 15lbs. I feel like back panel could sit higher, but he has enough head control at this point that it didn’t FEEL unsafe. (My hand is to cover his face in the picture, not providing any support) I couldn’t get the panel higher and still have a deep seat, but does that matter in this carrier? I also don’t love how I can feel the waist belt digging in like it’s too tall to sit comfortably in my natural waist. Is it meant to go more on the hips? It’s pretty comfortable otherwise and was much quicker to get him into than a wrap!
