Can we use onbuhimo yet?

Baby is only 16 weeks, with good head control though. Can he be worn in an onbuhimo on my back yet? What about on my front? About to buy a lenny lamb onbuhimo. I’ve seen people wear little babies on high back, but it was with a wrap. Is a wrap the only way? Thanks in advance!

For any kind of structured carrier you cannot carry on your back until baby is 6 months and sitting independently. *naked panda onbuhimo says it can be used for younger babies but I personally would not trust it. And the company is out of business so you would have to try to find one second hand.

Woven wraps, meh dais and fabric for an African torso carry can be used to carry before that but it is an advanced carry. Back carry boot camp is a good resource if you want to use a woven wrap, especially since it talks about the front carry skills you need but ideally in person support with an educator if you have not done it before.

The only way to wear a baby that little who is not sitting independently on your back is with a woven wrap or meh dai but this is considered an advanced position and I reccomend working with a babywearing consultant before you try it.

You can use a happy baby onbuhimo on your front with a baby who can't sit unassisted because they have extra buttons in their panel to support a small, non sitting baby.
