Assessment Journey Upcoming psychologist appointment

Hello everyoneeee! For context I am 17F almost 18 and am diagnosed with ADHD.

I align with a lot of autism symptoms that I’ve seen and traits and stuff like that. I did a lot of things as a child (and now) that my parents didn’t realise were (possibly) autism and we’re now learning that I didn’t have tantrums, I had meltdowns and shutdowns.

I have a psychologist appointment next month and I’m very nervous about it. When I saw a psychologist (different one) for an adhd assessment, she told me I wasn’t struggling enough to have adhd and that broke me a lot. Thankfully now I am diagnosed but I don’t know what I would do if that were to happen again.

This psychologist is not doing a straight up assessment since my parents and that other psychologist don’t think I have autism (heavily masking adhd so they don’t notice anything I actually do). I want to write down a bunch of stuff, like traits and symptoms and behaviours, that are common for autistic people and compare them to what I do/experience.

I tend to shutdown and forget things or chicken out during appointments and I believe if I write everything down, I’ll be able to prove to someone finally that I am different and hopefully get the help and diagnoses I need.

Could some people please give me some common traits/symptoms/behaviours or even some not so common ones? Google is unhelpful and giving me the list of “prepubescent little boys” type of symptoms.

THANK U IN ADVANCE xxxxxxx

Reminder to the subreddit that posting or requesting the details of an autism assessment is not allowed.

This includes,

  • Sharing the exact questions you were asked
  • Sharing the activities you were required to do
  • Sharing what behaviors or things the assessor is looking for
  • Sharing how you answered certain questions
  • Asking or encouraging how to appear more autistic or "pass" the assessment

This comment is posted to all submissions with the assessment journey flair automatically and does not mean you've done anything wrong.

/u/castiel4life, We also have a wiki page on this topic that you may find useful, and you can find that here.

It goes through who can diagnose autism, whether you should go for an assessment or not, how to make an appointment, how to prepare and the common questions we get, what to expect at an assessment, how to reduce anxiety, what to do while you wait for your results, and what to do if you didn't get diagnosed.
