US Sale How common are mileage exempt cars in California

They’re trying to say an exempt title is still a clean title. I read on Google that cars older than 2010 have exempt mileage, is that common to see there? I messaged some sellers on marketplace and they said no never even heard of it.

Cars that are 10 years or older don’t need odometer statements during transfer of ownership. If you have any doubts about the mileage that’s on the odometer you should purchase a vehicle history report.

The carfax looks ok. But for resale, this could be a large problem. This will be branded titled when I transfer it.

Why would it get a branded title? It's exempt, not NAM

It's not a branded title, it just indicates the mileage wasn't reported at the time of last sale, which isn't required for vehicles older that 9 years old on California.

In Arizona where I’ll be transferring it too, yes it will be branded. It will be noted in the brand section, miles exempt. I’ve already been to the dmv

If it's older than 2010 it'll just indicate "mileage exempt", which means its exempt from the mileage reporting requirements. It should actually effect anything related to registering or future transfers of the car.

All the "mileage exempt" brand indicates is that the vehicle is exempt from the federal mileage reporting guidelines, and somewhat indicates that the state isn't verifying the mileage of it. Some buyers (such as yourself) may be put off by it, but especially when talking about older cars it really shouldn't affect the fair market value, which is driven much more by the cars condition.

There’s a difference between the title showing not actual miles and showing exempt under the mileage reading. Is this some sort of collectible vehicle?

For any car that’s already 10 years old it’s already depreciated through most of it value.
