US Sale Other than a sale why would a dealership take down a recent car listing?

Bit of a strange one and more out of curiosity.

Was looking into buying a used Volvo XC60 from a BMW dealership. One of the reasons I decided against it was it was difficult to get an appt for a PPI at a Volvo dealership - they were all several weeks out and I needed a car sooner. The dealership was pretty adamant that I wouldn't need the inspection cause they're a reputable dealership and did their own inspection when they took the car in (apparently from a KBB sale).

Out of curiosity (and a little remorse) I checked to see if the car was still there and looks like they sold it to a smaller out of state dealership. That dealership put a post for the car with pictures coming soon. Within a couple of days the page for the posting disappeared but it doesn't appear as if they sold the vehicle.

Any thoughts on why they would take down the posting so quickly other than a sale? Wondering how likely it is they did their own inspection and found something wrong with the car and are either fixing it or sending it back or if there's something else I might not be thinking of? Curious if I may have dodged a bullet here.

There’s so many reasons they’d take down the listing. It’s unlikely that it was due to catastrophic engine failure or something like that. How do you know they didn’t sell it? Maybe the bought it because they had a buyer lined up

More curious if I dodged a bullet and if the dealership was wrong about not needing a PPI.

Was it pictured? A lot of times trade ins will end up on my website and well price it and plan to sell it. Then service will get to it and I’ll get a huge repair order and I’ll send it to wholesale.

No it had a stock picture on the listing with 'pictures coming soon'. Looks like the posting was taken down before they ever posted the pics.

It was probably a recent trade that they decided not to sell. I think you dodged a bullet.

They bought it from an out of state dealership. Curious thing is the place that took down the listing is smaller non-branded dealership. The selling dealership was a fairly large BMW.

You'd kind of think that the branded dealership would be more worried about putting out a car for sale with issues.

Is that just the risk dealerships assume when buying from another dealership out of state?

Why are you assuming it wasn’t sold?

The other dealer probably brought that car in specifically for someone and it went online briefly when it went into their inventory and right back out when it was delivered.
