US Sale Bought a brand new car... Odometer was wrong
Bought a brand new car from an AutoNation dealer in California and I live out of state. When speaking to the sales guy, pricing sheet had 10 as mileage. When the contract came, it was at 21 and I asked the guy why there was a discrepancy. His answer was that the car was brought in from another dealer 10 miles away. I was fine with it and signed the contract (and DMV odometer disclosure also had 21 miles). I got the car transported and it got delivered yesterday.... And it came with 172 miles!!!!
I was so livid. Talked to the sales manager and he said they didn't take a note of the mileage and it was their fault for making the mistake on the odometer reading and not updating. Still livid because that's not an excuse! It also came with 33 miles left to empty in fuel... wtf...
Got chaneled up to some other manager and he said the car came from OC and came with 170mi on it. We asked to give us the proof and he sends the bill of landing of 171 miles noted when the car was picked up at the dealer. So the sales manager lied again about not noting the odometer reading when the car was picked up...
This gotta be illegal right? Selling the car with incorrect odometer reading???

You're going to put thousands of miles on it, many scratches and fill the gas tank hundreds of times. This isn't the thing to get wound up about. It's your new car, enjoy the shit out of it

Lazy YES. Illegal no. Literally happens daily. Salespeople are too lazy to put their eyes on the odometer and write actual miles down on deal jacket. It is that SIMPLE. If not done mgrs go with what is in the system. Not a big deal but distasteful to you who expected different. Not being full is also cheap AF. There is a sales survey coming. It does and will affect salesperson mostly but dealer also. KINDLY remind them of this when communicating.

Every new car at my dealership has 10 miles on it online/paper. It's a default setting. Some actually have 2 miles, others have 30, etc...

Enjoy your new car!
The mileage came to you with 170 miles, thats nothing you're going to put tens of thousands on miles on it

Not giving any excuse for the laziness of the salesperson/managers for not checking the fucking miles and owning up to the mistake but what is your concern with the car having 172 miles?
