Australian Sale Very Weird message from Mazda Dealership

So this morning, 23/10/2025, I put my Mazda 6 2004 into Mazda for a replacement airbag (It was part of the Takata recall). All was fine until an hour later, I got a message from them asking if I would like a complimentary evaluation to trade my car in because they want to replenish their inventory and that my car fits the profile of what they want. Can someone please explain what this means??

TIA! x

No, but they'll accept it in trade and then wholesale it out.

Never hurts to know what your car is worth. But what I found is best is to get a quote from Car Max and then force them to take that deal....because most dealers will...if not then people won't trade their cars in - they'll go to Car Max instead and do it.

And if you walk out they risk they won't actually sell a car.

Agreed. Pretty standard now it seems. I just got a text the other day for a vehicle I bought from a local dealership that I sold 3 years ago😂

Yeah, I got a couple for a GTI I traded in somewhere else 4 years ago and for my wife's Santa Fe we got last year. 04 Mazda 6? Probably off to the auction or maybe to Vinny's buy here, pay here.

It's marketing. I guarantee if you look at their inventory, they don't have any 2005 or earlier vehicles on their lot.

What happens is that if you trade in your car, then you will need a car. And if you need a car, well what are the odds, well I guess you're in luck because you now need to buy a car and just happen to be at a place where they sell cars!

Ohhh! Okay, thanks man! Yeah they definitely don’t have any before 05’ plus my car has 391,471kms on it too, so there’s no way they’d want it lol.

They see you as a mark for a new car. That is all.

They're just trying to sell you a car. If you are lucky they might pay for your worthless trade.
