Traffic Report MST and AllTrails, why is there no information on MST day hikes?

My theory is: it’s a hassle to use that app. But, MST isn’t well-described anywhere that I’ve found, you’re right. There’s also the possibility the trail isn’t taken seriously yet - outside of the mountains it’s not very real.

It doesn’t really need to be mapped in this part of the state since it’s just running along the parkway and I’ve never thought to review sections of it because my review for so much of it would be “you can see/hear the road”. Imagine lots of people feel the same and the content is largely user generated.

The kinds of reviews most helpful to me share:mileage, elevation, bear activity, Yellowjacket or other nests, snake sightings, obstacles. Sometimes I’m trying to hit mileage or elevation goals for a a day and don’t need a giant hike to do it so it would be nice to plan one from the screen. Deathly allergic to yellowjackets and would be nice to know if there’s any nests encountered on trail so I don’t have to learn the hard way.

That makes sense. All trails isn’t the best for that in my experience for any trails around here. I use it more for are there especially deep creek crossings, will I need to bushwack, is the hike worth the distance and elevation. The reviews tend to be weeks or months apart on the longer trails that tourists aren’t on all the time leaving reviews. And the longer trails are being done by people who think they’re fine if they don’t fall off a cliff face, I’ve done some hikes that had good recent reviews that were in extremely bad shape and I don’t know how no one thought it was noteworthy in reviews.

Sounds like all apps fall short and we need a new crowd-sourced one. 😂 Any tech-savvy takers?

Are you in the hiking Facebook groups? People are very active in there and post a lot of current trail conditions, leaf change updates, etc

Probably because they break it up into sections. Much like the AT.
