Question Modes of Transport in LA?

Helly all,

I'll be attending AX for the second time this year, but I will also be trying to do some other stuff around LA like the hololive concert and little tokyo.

When I went my first year, it was just me and I Ubered to and from AX and my hotel, but that added up pretty quick. This year I am going with friends, so whatever we do we will split the cost.

I can get a rental car pretty cheap, but with parking and all, is it worth it? I'll be staying 1h away from the convention center by public transit, and 30 min by car.

Should I just suck it up and rent a car so I'm not limited as to where we can go and when? Or would it still be cheaper to Uber EVERYWHERE if there's no convenient public transit?

Just take the subway. It is dirt cheap and there are stations all over DTLA, including the convention center and Little Tokyo. You can also get to Korea Town, Thai Town, Hollywood, and many other spots. They just now started allowing payment via credit card/mobile wallet, so you don't even need to buy a TAP card anymore.

You can also easily get to/from LAX via Union Station on the FlyAway bus. There are also several buses that crisscross the area, in addition to the free AX hotel shuttle buses. Google Maps makes getting around via transit a breeze, including real-time updates.

Where are you staying at? You can take the train or shuttles. The shuttles usually pick people near the jw hotel and drop people off at different hotels and little tokyo.https://www.anime-expo.org/ax/plan/transportation/

Would love just general advice for LA or specific tips for AX if you have any :)

Maybe go for a hybrid of drive/Uber and public transit? Some Metro stations do have parking available.

Although rail lines offer a lot of frequency, don’t count out the J line bus if you will stay closer to a J line bus stop.

For little Tokyo just take the shuttle from AX. Hololive concert is gonna have to be an uber

Where can I see AX shuttles? Are they actual AX shuttles or is it just the LA busses?

You can Google the shuttle schedules from last year. They’re chartered by AX.

Between what you’re going to pay in car rental fees, the parking fees and gas prices. Not the mention the headache of just finding a place to park by the con. It will probably work out the same taking Ubers or Waymo. Then again it will also depend on just how much “extra” stuff you want to do outside of the con itself. Gas in the LA area is well over $6 at the moment.

Train is the best option. Either Amtrak or Metrolink are best to get to LA.
