Well, there we have it. The first ever time a main character has caught a legendary Pokémon, unless you count ultra beasts and mythicals as legendaries (like the games' code does) or Gladion as a main character. Anyway, Gou's presumably hour-long tenure as literally the strongest trainer in the entire world was rather short-lived, since he turned in Eternatus instead of keeping it. Well, at the very least he got the entry in his Pokédex, which is all that matters (how does the Pokédex already have data on Eternatus or Zacian and Zamazenta for that matter anyway?)

The episode itself, and the adaptation of SS's plot, were quite by-the-book, or rather, by-the-game in the sense that it wasn't really unpredictable in the slightest. Even the evolution scenes were the worst kept secret in the world, and quite frankly anticlimactic, given the context in which they both happened. There weren't many major deviations from what was expected, and the battles didn't exactly wow me with animation or such. It was overall a fairly standard conclusion.

Now granted, the fact that Eternatus was sealed away, and Rose and Oleana got away, seems to hint that we haven't seen the last of them. This would be exciting since it does open the door for the anime to write its own story, rather than condensing the entirety of SS's plot into four episodes. Except that SS's plot is so bare-bones that these four episodes felt more like expanding it... Regardless, I'm excited to see Eternatus again in the future, alongside Zacian and Zamazenta, too.

Now, I am going to take a moment to nitpick about Riolu's evolution. Riolu only evolves into Lucario when levelled up with max happiness during daytime. Yet it was the middle of the night when that battle happened. Come on writers, can you not do any better than this?

Actually, you can see from the scene at the start of the episode where Team Rocket blasts off that underneath the Darkest Day clouds it was still sunset while Ash was facing Rose, and it only became night when Eternatus was defeated. It's plausible that the game conditions for Riolu's evolution were still in place when it happened.

Same shit. There's literally no difference between both beside the names in anime lore.

C'mon, the anime has pokemon constantly evolving mid-battle...

Also even in the games we have constantly pokemon that evolved way too early, or with wierd shit, there is that pikachu that can use fly...
