If you liked the character-driven drama in it, albeit on different topics, I'd suggest checking out other works in which Mari Okada was involved.

A Place Further Than the Universe sort of, way different in terms of plot but it’s also a coming of age story about a group of girls

Completely different (and uglier) artstyle, and overall much darker, more somber tone, but "Aku no Hana" dealt with similar topics of emotional confusion and sexual awakening in teenagers. It even had one epic scene of vandalizing a school with ink and brushes. The manga's artstyle is much cuter if you care for that, and the same author also wrote "Inside Mari", another beautiful manga about sexuality and its contradictions and the relationship between mind and body. That one does not have an anime, but I wish it did.
