I believe it is because the school year in Japan starts in Apr and ends in Mar the following year?

My guess is that the giant is made up off disturbed dirt and dust held together through vibrations in the air around it

the kanji does suggest that it is a bunch of dust/dirt/garbage that i guess is being controlled by the vibrations or something

In Japan, kids are usually grouped from those born from April 2nd to April 1st of the following year in the same school year.

For example, kids born from April 2, 2000 to April 1, 2001 will be in the same school year.

Since Shiori's birthday is March 31, she's born a day before the cut-off line.

Japan school semesters start in April and end in March, so every batch of new students of the same age would have the oldest birthday on April 1st and youngest on March 31st.
