Fine episode but this season really is heavy on the exposition. I understand why, the books were like that. But god. They could’ve trimmed it down. Again, what’s really hurt this arc is the lack of pride’s internal monologue. It feels less character driven. And I’m even more concerned now since [last boss Queen light novels] I thought they were speeding things up from the books so there would be enough time to get to book 5. But next week appears to be a wrap up/epilogue for Leon’s arc. Almost half the season was spent on this and it still felt like a speed run. Pride’s constant recaps of the game make sense when she’s constantly trying to remember wtf leon’s plot was in order to plan how she acts. They cut the lead but kept the exposition dump of what happened in the game. And it’s like, did we need more examples of the bros being scumbags? In another life they were allies to evil pride and kidnapped tiara. Booo hooo. The show could’ve easily cut down the big confrontation scene this week and, if I’m being perfectly honest, I don’t find the whole end of book 3 necessary. It’s just shipping fodder. And for the record, this is coming someone who wants Arthur for endgame. (As a Val fan, my rare pair is him and Leon.) My worst fear with this season was doing s1 again with just two books adapted and the only reason I had any hope they’ll actually get to book 5 is the opening. But next week’s preview has concerned me greatly. Then again, considering my they don’t even animate Leon hugging Pride maybe expecting them to be able to animate the war arc was too much. Fingers crossed for a movie or something.

So, does Pride ever believe that the original Pride is never coming back? She acts like it's a given and seems to treat her own life like it's guaranteed to have a bad ending.

Just wondering if she ever overcomes that mindset.

I’ll explain it over here [last boss queen light novels] for a brief bit, part of her thinks she’s avoided it. However, she still subconsciously believes OG Pride will resurface. And the reason she believes that is because she saw it. It’s not revealed until the end of v9, but when she first regained her memories of her past life at the start of the series, she also experienced precognition. She saw herself at age 18, acting like the pride from the game, but doing things Pride never did in the game. Ergo, even if she changed the trajectory of the plot, she was still going to act like/end up like game Pride.
