Hinako was a strange kid to witness Shiori looking like she came straight out of a horror film and react like “Wow, Miss Fishie is so pretty” instead of being terrified of the nightmare fuel lol.

In terms of myths legends and fairy tale (not the sanitised Disney kind), like Miyazaki's Forest Master in Princess Mononoke, "raw" things of nature generally can be described more as majestic and primal, like the gnarly woods in an ancient forest. Indeed classic Fae creatures can be quite "grosteque" by modern standards.
