This episode was especially good because it finally explains all the foreshadowing from earlier in the series. It makes sense now why Shiori was able to find Hinako so quickly when they got separated at the festival. It is because of the mermaid blood.

It’s ironic that Shiori is introduced as the perfect example of a “monster,” yet she feels like the most human character in the entire cast. Hinako is like the sun to Shiori, which makes watching them trapped in this painful situation even harder. And what makes Shiori’s prayer so tragic is that something meant to protect Hinako ended up becoming a curse.

If you haven’t already, I highly recommend checking the opening and ending lyrics—they tie directly into the themes of this episode and add even more depth once you notice the connections.

Shiori is my favorite character, and I see her as an example of not writing off someone's humanity just because they don't have the same normal or social conventions as you. On the inside she's a lonely girl who has been yearning for human connection.

Oh, I definitely agree. Hinako is my favorite character, but Shiori is the most intriguing to me, making her my second favorite.

Miko is my best girl of the series, but Shiori has become the most entertaining and relatable to me if that makes sense.
