Hinako was a strange kid to witness Shiori looking like she came straight out of a horror film and react like “Wow, Miss Fishie is so pretty” instead of being terrified of the nightmare fuel lol.

Yeah, I personally found that a bit contrived. Hinako's sense of aesthetics is kaput if she thought that was ''pretty.'' A more realistic approach would've been her being shocked at the strange creature but still approached it with curiosity and poked it with a stick, after realizing it wasn't gonna hurt her, she slowly would've opened up.

I do think it's a very childlike thing to think though. There are many ways in which the thought process of a kid differs from what is considered "common sense" because every experience and every opinion is new to them.

Plus even we can admit that Shiori's monster form does have a certain beauty to it.
