So the anime didn't adapt extra chapter which explains the backstory of Shiori's hairpin

[Spoiler]Basically Hinako gave her clam shell as a parting gift and that becomes Shiori's hairpin

*Edit: I just remembered that in the opening, Hinako is holding that thing.

They'll probably add it next week. I'm not worried since, like you said, it's in the OP, plus it's a pretty damn important moment that gets referenced later on.

I'm not sure about that because next episode will have it's own extra chapter. Unless they swap it with this one

I think it will come at the beginning of ep11, as the timeline of that extra chapter is right after ep 10.

I think you're right! They posted a preview for the next episode on 3AM GMT (~2h ago). Around 4 seconds, smol Hinako said "白くて綺麗" which is likely the same line she said in the manga, talking about the thing she's holding

Well, the reason I commented in the first place is because I thought they could fit it in the ED. It's only 1m30s, and the extra chapter is only 8 pages. They can put Ayame-san's backstory in the ED before, so why not put this one too?

I can't imagine if anime only fans can understand what's going on in this extra chapter without Hinako's dialogue. Unlike Ayame's backstory which has only her monologue. Honestly I'm not worried at all about how anime staffs will adapt this manga since the author herself also participated in script writing discussion. Also, anime staffs are just fans of this manga too, like us lol

No, I don't mean it like Ayame's. Many anime do that thing where the scene keeps playing during the end credits, and the music drops super low so you can still hear the dialogue. That kind of thing

I just saw this on my own a few minutes ago but, thanks for the tag! Very glad it's not being left unadapted.

For you and /u/South_Concentrate779 , I will say that I wasn't happy with how Ayame's backstory was handled in the anime. Removing the dialog and cutting the bonus chapter sequence short to fit within the ED I don't think cut it, and wish that the dialog was kept, as you propose here in this thread for the other sequence, where the credits would just be shown over the backstory while normal dialog still played

Thanks for the ping. Yep I saw that this morning, plus the preview pics. Awesome.

[Watatabe]I’m kind of intrigued by the discussions about Azami being dead in the non-source reader discussion, because as we know, she’s very much alive. Especially because when I read it I pretty much instantly assumed that she also survived and would come back later on as an antagonist to try and kill Hinako because hurting Shiori is pointless but killing her would hurt her so much worse than any bomb ever can. So the differing perspectives are interesting.

I'm frustrated that this episode got such a short end of the stick production quality wise.

The entire show clearly had a limited budget and I adjusted my expectations, but this is one of the most critical episodes and it really felt like the most low budget one we've had since episode 3.

The seal wasn't made to look terrifying at all, the underwater scenes with shirori's half destroyed body were rushed through, the storyboarding was very plain more then normal, with outright off perspective on backgrounds in some shots, Shirori's voice in her true form not having any sort of editing or processing to it, etc.

it's a shame.

The biggest issue though is the lack of adapting the bonus chapter about her hair pin. I REALLY hope that /u/Syokhan and /u/alan_14 are correct that it'll happen next episode due to the OP scene, because I think it's critical.

EDIT:

Something I forgot (but was reminded by /u/ rayfish5 's comment) to mention that I really liked that the anime did here was how the final shot of Shiori wistfully looking up with a tree's shadow over her face, has the shadow almost give an illusion of her face being half transformed into fish scales.

The manga doesn't do it but if intentional, the anime handling the shadows from that panel thar way is really fun/neat

Shirori's voice in her true form not having any sort of editing or processing to it, etc.

This was also weird to me because the first time we hear her voice in her true form at the training camp it was edited. Miko's fox voice is edited, the yokai in episode 1 was edited, even the little bugs. Yet here at the beach talking to Hinako, there were no voice adjustments. Not sure of the reason behind it but I wish they had done more with it.

Right, that's why it stood out to me

My only guess for why they didn't do processing is that maybe they interpreted the dialog as being human form Shiori narrating the dialog back to Miko?

That or I guess maybe a budget thing, since there's so much dialog here
