[Spoilers] Diamond no Ace episode 03

First day of practice.

Miyuki is my hero. I love the freshman bullying, too much fun.

I feel that Satoru is gonna have god-like endurance by the end of this. Should help get him a starter position fairly quickly.

I'd say Hajime no Ippo (boxing) or Kuroko no Basket (basketball) both top Ace no Diamond. Although so far it's hard to really rate Ace no Diamond because we haven't had a real game. However, if they can stray away a bit from action scenes and drop in some character development I'd be happy as well.

But to get bck to your point: Hajime no Ippo has a lot of action, the story is fast-paced (perhaps a bit too much if you see where he ends after the first season?) but the MC has some great development in mindset and attitude, albeit he still is a generic anime-young man on every front but boxing.
Kuroko no Basket on the other hand has a nice first season and because it is a teamsport, it has a nice change compared to something like boxing as the series focusses on how both one extremely talented player and both a mediocre team working together both have their talents. If you actually read into it a bit you'll see that Kuroko no Basket doesn't scream "believe in yourself and you can become the best!" but yet pushes the importance of teamwork without trying to make it say that teamwork beats skill. Season 2 so far seems VERY promising and I honestly believe it'll be at least twice as good as season 1.

I would hardly call the team in Kuroko no Basket mediocre. The show makes a point of the fact that all the players are good in their own right. The captain always makes his shots, there's the guy with the eagle eye, and now they're introducing Kiyoshi who is an amazingly strong center. They may not be as ridiculous as Kuroko or Taiga but they're definitely above average.

In season one it definitely was only about Kuroko & Taiga though, and they almost staged it as if the rest was mediocre. Now with Kiyoshi back in the team and him letting the guy with the glasses make so many hoops it actually presses that the entire team wasn't that bad to begin with, but it's hard to look over in season one because Taiga beasts the fuck out of everyone and Kuroko S1 finale spoilers.

Well that's not exactly fair. Kuroko S1 finale spoilers I think it's more accurate to say they were an exceptional team to begin with, but, working together, they were able to reach the god-like level of the generation of miracles.
