Meanwhile McQueen gets DQ'd in game for moving diagonally in race (S2 didn't cover the race) and in this international umas go full ram ranch for free.

It's different. Bumping is somewhat okay (just like in other sport as football), even some JP horses do it. Moving diagonally tho, it's super dangerous, just like how dangerous cutting other car in traffic at high speed.

I think the difference is between just jockeying for position and blocking a potential pass. There were clips going around this week of Gentildonna practically shoving other horses out of the way to gain spots, but they were side-by-side doing that. Cutting in front of another horse, especially if they’re on the charge, can be incredibly dangerous

As noted, what McQueen did almost resulted in an accident on the track and was penalized for that accordingly. Meanwhile, this level of shove jockeying isn't considered to be at the level of dangerous play yet, a style which Japanese racers avoid for probably a few reasons.

Rough play is legal, but what McQueen did almost created a big accident. So it is definitely a bigger issue even if she wasn't as in direct contact with someone else as these international Umas where.

Yeah I don’t get it either. You can move and block but slamming into people is okay. You’d think slamming into someone would be considered worse. It’s rather backwards tbh

You can think of it like a car accident. Two cars side to side and parallel scraping against each other would only be a minor accident - the momentum is still mainly going forward so minimal kinetic energy is transferred. If a car cuts in front of you causing you to crash into their rear this would be a major accident - your full force is going into the crash.
