I'm glad 3 of the four protagonists realize Shadow is chuuni, they're all familiar with such personalities but I don't remember if Tanya was an otaku himself, I'm going with he wasn't.

That moment with Beatrice and Subaru was so adorable, I wasn't ready for that.

No, Tanya in the past life was the super-serious corporate worker who wished to climb up the corporate ladder and secure a comfy position. Absolutely not an otaku.

In some exposition Tanya mentioned she was outwardly normal in high school even though had a different thought process to normal people and knew others thought her as twisted. On one hand passing off as normal means hanging out with friends (or perhaps "people she enjoyed spending time with when she was a high school boy and later a salaryman" since normal people usually care about their friends and not just a "if they're fine, I can enjoy time with him). So she knew how to enjoy time "off the clock." But being a "normie" or at least passing off as one is not an otaku.

The Salaryman iirc was mostly a military history Otaku and I think she does occasionally mention reading manga but probably more of a casual consumer if anything. Even if he was once a big Otaku, clearly that mindset was eventually pounded out of him by le society™ by the time he was an HR manager.

On one hand I liked the moment with Subaru and Betty. On the other hand, I preferred the S1 status of the characters when they were treated as a snapshot of their canon selves isolated from future events... which was before she warmed up.
