Well, self-proclaimed hero, we still know nothing about what being an hero means in this setting and what proves you are one

Leonore said that party had a solid chance at being able to kill a demon king.

So he is a legit hero.

There just also happens to be a secret background war going on thats massively higher in scale.

Nah it’s more like “we said that this was to be the Last Fight, but it turns out it was the Penultimate moment. After this the Ultimate moment will come up and will probably include something of Apocalyptic scale”
