Holy shit those girls are dumb. Messing with your target's drink right in front of them, it's like they want to be caught.

To be fair, they never expected Monica to drink the tea despite the bitterness, because most people in their world would have spit it out or choked, which was their initial intention all along (to make an embarrassment out of her). Caroline never thought that a common girl like Monica would have a lot of other people on her back (and I don’t think Monica herself realizes it).

She also didn't even know that it could be poisonous when ingested in larger quantities. She just thought it was gross and bitter.

Also as Claudia said something that might be safe for an adult might not be safe for a child or in Monica's case someone who is malnourished.

I don't see how you could know one without the other. If it's that poisonous, how would she know it was bitter? It's not like she accidentally had a taste. She must have heard it from someone else, and I think that person would have mentioned the poisonous traits before the fact that it's bitter.

Because it's not that poisonous. Monica only started feeling off after drinking the whole cup. When she tried it, she didn't drink more than a sip before stopping because it was gross so it wasn't enough to affect her.

Monica only started feeling off after drinking the whole cup.

With 1 drop in the cup. Thats all that they put in of the beauty drops and she was convinced she was going to die.

Do we know how much she put in? I assumed they poured in a bunch, not just 1 drop.

Typically the person suggesting the "prank" mentions the bitterness but not the danger so that the prankster unknowingly does their dirty work. Then when they go looking for the mastermind they are nowhere to be found.

That said, I have personally had eye drops get in my mouth and can totally believe it was learned via firsthand experience. My tongue was numb for a while but I was fine otherwise.

The eye stuff now for eye doctors often in botulism toxin. But from comments here it was a Nightshade both are deadly. A few drops to get eye to dilate.

And Monica was forced to throw up so she probably got many drops worth of a dose.

Or she just assumed that something your supposed to put on your eyes would taste funny, and knew nothing of the specific flavor.

Also, medicine is pretty famous for never being designed with taste in mind and the difference between a medicine and a poison is often just dosage and intent.

Nah, that doesn't fly. Their motivations were petty and malicious. So while they may not have meant to kill her, they still goaded her into drinking a cup of poisoned tea.

And for what? Because they wanted Monica to lie to a higher ranking noble that embarrassed them? Embarrassed them because the lead b!tch shoved someone down a flight of stairs, while in an argument, that she started, and then tried to lie her way out of?

No she didn't mean to shove Monica down a flight of stairs anymore than she meant to kill her, but these weren't blameless accidents. They were in the middle of a crowded stairwell (at least 5 people on that small landing) when she got physical, she put poison in someone's drink then goaded her to drink it after that someone refused to lie on her behalf. She kept lying or trying to pull rank to avoid the consequences of her own pettiness showing a gross disregard for others.

And all for what? Again and again, she hurt others to protect her own pride that has only been damaged by her own actions.

There is nothing "fair' about it.
