One thing that I found a bit funny and might be connected to the hint is the following: We know that her master lived in France and that she named her Ringo which means apple. Later we learn that the base of Miso soup is Miso, water and potatoes and Sara is making a Miso soup with apple instead of potatoes. In French, there is some connection here because apple is "pomme" and potato is "pomme de terre" (which literally translates to earth apple).
So maybe, Sara's idea of using apple this way isn't completely wrong. I mean, there are certain recipes in Europe that use apple as pieces to give some flavor.
