Thought for sure that there was going to be a twist that his wife was somehow in the business too. Coincidences do happen, but twice? When the first time was that they were both not at a company get-together? Awkwardly suspect.

Thought for sure that there was going to be a twist that his wife was somehow in the business too.

In the previous episode thread I HEAVILY theorized on this (her wife not only being involved in the business, but being involved in his death), bringing up a million things that seem to point to this...

This episode made me lose a bit of confidence in that theory, but I'm not ready to give up on it yet, in large part due to the title of the next episode.

If it turns out I'm wrong and there's nothing more to it, I'll have to say it's the most "coincidences" I've ever seen in anime, that turned out to just be coincidences!

Yeah, maybe I’m also super wrong but from what little I’ve seen, the story doesn’t really seem to “waste” scenes. It kept pushing how little he could read her, how sweet their relationship was, how she totally didn’t know he was an assassin… and I’m going “well, so far the anime doesn’t particularly act like their watchers are stupid and in fact uses a rather small number of scenes to get deeper or subtler points/plots/emotions across….therefore the only way I can honestly translate this is as two assassins in love.”

Her animation/face style also made her seem emotionless or cold when she wasn’t talking to him or talking about him. Her somewhat startled face or thinking face in between certain lines in the flashback read as rather poised and calculating to me, as was her expression when she initially looked down at him in the casket.

If the series ends with her character never showing up again I’m still gonna be suspicious.

As with the other poster above I think you are overthinking this and possibly giving the anime a little too much credit, as good as it is.
