Miharu is fun and I'm liking the dynamic between the 5 of them. According to the OP, he's so far the last familiar which I think is good since shonens with a bloated cast quickly lose their appeal for me.

I love that Nico actually called Nemu for the trip and I'm looking for seeing more of their friendship. I wonder if or when Nemu's going to get more focus. She's not a main character but she's my favorite so I hope she'll become more important in the future. Like Miharu just got introduced and we already saw his backstory + joining the gang.

More interactions between her and Keigo would be nice as well, since she has a deal with wolf so I'm wondering how different Keigo/Nemu is to Wolf/Nemu. I'm glad to see she's in the next episode :)

Also Moi starting to make poems as well 😭.

Hope Nemu took a good peek at swimsuit Wolf when he showed up briefly.

Tbh I think it would be even more interesting if Keigo had more impact on her. Wolf is a bit like Moi, strong tall, the stereotype we already know Nemu is attracted to. But Nemu being more attracted to the 'lame' Keigo would be so funny. Her poems would just be her repeating "why?". Espacially since, even if he's depicted as a "loser", he's still quite pretty.

I don't disagree since two shy or socially awkward people attracted to each other is very much up in my alley. It's just that she hasn't had much chances to know lame Keigo yet at this point.

I agree, I want to see a Nemu and Keigo focused episode because of the Wolf connection.

Same ! Also those two are my favorites as individual characters so I'm even more curious about their possible relationship whether it's friendship or more. Just like Moi/Nico, those two seem also quite different but that's what I like in relationships, the contrast between people (which is why Nico/Moi and Nico/Nemu work so well imo).

That scene of Nemu looking at Wolf in the OP felt very romance-coded to me.

I like how in the first few minutes of the OP we see a fantasy version of Nico and the Familiars in their "traditional" forms.

Looks like we're getting more NicoxNemu next week!

More interactions between her and Keigo would be nice as well, since she has a deal with wolf so I'm wondering how different Keigo/Nemu is to Wolf/Nemu. I'm glad to see she's in the next episode :)

She doesn't want him copping a feel on her in a swimsuit without permission...but she didn't seem to totally mind it if he had either!

I love that Nico actually called Nemu for the trip and I'm looking for seeing more of their friendship.

I got the sense from that recovery scene when Nemu was feeding Nico, that Nico is basically going to turn into a lap cat for Nemu, and suddenly she's going to be the one giving the pets to someone else....

....because Nico is indeed an Orange Cat.

Sort of a bit of a reversal of what she was expecting.

It is rather cute to see their friendship evolving and Nico talking Nemu out of her shell a bit.

I think they're slowly taking their time bringing Nemu in with the rest of the cast because she's got this whole big other family, this entire other school that she goes to, and a different kind of Witch Legacy that's on her shoulders compared to everyone else.

That's A LOT to suddenly bring into the main plot line, so they're gradually drip feeding us stuff with her, and are including her when need be so as to not overshadow the rest of the cast or the main story arc.

Plus one of the episode previews showed us that Nemu's Mom is REALLY HOT, and that means she's getting a whole episode with Nemu and the gang.

Nemu and Wolf

It looks like you might just get your wish next week going by the episode preview!

I think that they're going to be a...relationship of extremes....with Keigo/Nemu being a whole lot more chill.

I'm rather curious to see what Nemu's room looks like and whether or not it is similar to Keigo's at all.

I honestly could see her as a goth rock chick.

poems

He should use those to momentarily stun and confuse the bad guys lol

....because Nico is indeed an Orange Cat.

That scene was cute, Nemu was there helping Nico and she already knew what was Nico strengh/favorite food. Also, since Nico is so strong as a witch, I'm wondering if she already realized that Nemu was the cat but is simply waiting for Nemu to admit it when she's ready. Nico's comment about how surprising it was to do a wolf and Cat getting along in the past episode was ...suspicious.

I think they're slowly taking their time bringing Nemu in with the rest of the cast because she's got this whole big other family, this entire other school that she goes to, and a different kind of Witch Legacy that's on her shoulders compared to everyone else.

Hopefully you're right! It's just thatI don't read/watch a lot of shonen but when I do the sides characters are so undervelopped it gets frustrating. Nemu reminds me of Aira from Dandadan and I already got frustrated by the lack of development Aira (and other sides characters) get. But WW is more slice of life oriented so it allows more time with the characters and like you said, maybe it's too soon for Nemu.

It looks like you might just get your wish next week going by the episode preview!

Yup :D the curse of liking side characters more than main (tho Nico and Moi are also great) is that they don't appear often. It's cool to see that she's back next week and might even have a scene with Keigo!

I'm wondering if she already realized that Nemu was the cat but is simply waiting for Nemu to admit it when she's ready.

I could easily see her finding out but then just forgetting about it until Nemu was ready to reveal herself OR Nico does know and then one day decides to turn into a cat to join in on the pets lol

It was indeed cute and rather good planning by Nemu to bring along Nico's power food just in case something happened.

wolf and cat getting along

I bet it's the bow that Nemu wears and Nico's going to say that it reminded her of cat ears.

underdeveloped

Yeah there's always the risk with a big cast that not everyone gets the spotlight they deserve and then you just keep waiting and waiting and waiting...and so do the writers...for something to happen with them or for there to be space and time for them.

Either that winds up happening or the series ends without them getting their time to shine.

This has....bugged me....within certain ensemble shows, so I feel where you're coming from 100%.

It's even more of an issue in live action shows and there are some of those which have taken care of side characters VERY well and others which went multiple seasons and still left us going, "Wait who are they again and why should we care and hey what was up with that one thing in their backstory?!".

more slice of life oriented

Yeah that's why I'm not too worried about WW.

This show seems to treat character development as a primary goal and action scenes/main plot stuff as a secondary goal.

With the amount of time they're taking for Nemu though...I mean...that feels like BUILD UP.

And by BUILD UP, I mean primary arc related set up that needs to be paced out in a steady rhythm so that everything else hits just right.

So I'm guessing the CBS logo attacking them in the opening title sequence is probably related to Nemu's family somehow.

And this has got me wondering, we've seen how all of these other magical creatures and warlocks react to Nico's whole Witch of Thousands thing....but how do other WITCHES react to her and what do they think of her?

Nemu's not really a great barometer for that kind of a thing and Nico's mom is clearly protective of her because she's her daughter BUT we don't have the perspective of other witches on the rarity that is Nico just yet.

And considering how powerful Nemu's family is...well...I think that's going to be the narrative vector for us to figure that all out and to see what other witches think of Nico, her place in the world now as the current Witch of Thousands, and the past history of previous Witches of Thousands.

So there's bound to be plenty of episodes in the future where we see a whole bunch of Nemu.

Plus like she had all of that wild blue magical energy around her in the opening and that hasn't shown up in the series at all just yet!

the curse of liking side characters

Hey everyone loved Quark on DS9 and Vic Fontaine!

I'm so looking forwards to next week though because I NEED more scenes with Nemu and Wolf/Keigo!

Oops I accidentally wrote a bit of a rant but I hope its okay :D

As a manga reader I am trying my best to write this without any spoilers. Like you mentioned with shows that have big casts some characters tend lack development and I feel like the author of witch watch has a bad habit of introducing new characters every 20 chapters and then giving them couple of chapters for backstory and development then forgetting they exist. Leaving the audience wondering why were they introduced at all and are they going to play a part in the actual main plot of the show that happens every 50 chapters or are they just characters for the gag-manga chapters that are most of the manga.

But like you said the slice-of-life seems to be the main aspect of the show so having reoccuring side characters for those parts is good since audience has atleast somewhat of an understanding of each character that is brought back for the specific chapter. It just sometimes feels rough because there are 6 or 7 b-plots/arcs on top of the main plot that get one chapters worth of development at a time, but most of the time they end abruptly and the next chapter is completely unrelated gag that has no development for any character or doesnt bring any storyline to any direction. The gag chapters are good and fun but when they most of the time do not result in any character or story progression and are around half of the manga it makes the whole manga/show feel a bit directionless.

I wish that the author would write even like 3-5 chapters worth of content for the side plots at a time that would flesh out the characters more and not reserve the multi-chapter arcs for only when the main plot moves on. Since most of the time the side plot chapters feel like build up but by the time you get to the next time that storyline is being brought up the progress and build up has reseted and you are again getting the same build up again and again.

Man, everything you wrote is literally intentional. The author chose to write episodic sol gag manga and it looks like you're complaining that he does exactly this.

Leaving the audience wondering why were they introduced at all and are they going to play a part in the actual main plot of the show that happens every 50 chapters or are they just characters for the gag-manga chapters that are most of the manga.

That's literally the point. Not knowing what detail or character will be relevant in the future is one of the strengths of witch watch that keeps it fresh and somewhat unpredictable.

most of the time they end abruptly and the next chapter is completely unrelated gag that has no development for any character or doesnt bring any storyline to any direction

Yeah, and? Why is it bad? Not every chapter should have a development and direction. It's a gag manga goddamn it. And again not knowing what next chapter will be about is one of the features of witch watch.

they most of the time do not result in any character or story progression and are around half of the manga it makes the whole manga/show feel a bit directionless.

It's wrong on so many levels. IT'S AN EPISODIC GAG MANGA DUDE. Witch watch is written according to the rules of a genre with mixed in fantasy action storyline. There are gag mangas and comedy shows that don't have development at all, witch watch is not the case. Most gag chapters have a lot of subtle character development and set-up for future events.

I'm speechless, it's like we're reading two different witch watchs :/

Even though I wrote that I still do enjoy witch watch a lot (I wouldnt be reading/watching it otherwise). I honestly really enjoy it as a gag manga but I think my (selfish) wish is to see more of the fantasy/action storylines because they are really good.

2

u/Rare_Flow5056 Jul 14 '25

Oh, that's what it was all about. Now I get it. I mean yeah, they're pretty good. Personally I wish for more lore dump in ww as it's really intriguing, but ww is a gag manga first and foremost, so it is like it is and I respect Shinohara for his decisions. At the same time I really like the character development in ww which you can find not only in the serious arc, but in random gag chapters too, that's why I was kinda frustrated by your comment on this issue. Sorry if my comment came off as a bit too emotional.

2

u/Buroth Jul 14 '25

Dont worry I mean my original comment was a bit emotional as well its just that sometimes while reading the chapters to me it feels like some progression just magically (heh) resets which grinds my gears a bit
