It was nice to have a lighter episode and this one was really hilarious! I loved seeing the more weird people who live on the outskirts of Avonlea.

Dan seemed the least weird in that just his wife orders him around and he's something of a dimwit. That was funny how he didn't know what "season to taste" meant 🤣. Eliza was a straight up bitch! I understand people get more negative when they're old for good reason but that was really cruel to say Marilla was just going to go blind and spreading doom.

Mrs. White seems to have what they call today "OCD". She spread newspapers on her dirt walkway wtf, why not have it paved or put gravel on it or something? She also basically said her son Lorenzo was a huge asshole but in a good mood because he had a kid. Lorenzo seemed the nicest most pleasant man in the world, I wonder if he actually always is a nice person but his whacko mother just thinks so, like he walked in the house 10 years ago and tracked dirt in and she never forgave him 🤣

It was also interesting seeing Anne getting her bearings as a teacher. I thought it was odd she instantly pegged Anthony as a bad kid before even talking to him. Thats bad for teachers to do and you'd think she'd have more compassion for him being an orphan herself. That was hilarious how he knew about Anne breaking the slate on Gilbert's head, I can only imagine Josie gleefully telling him tons of embarrassing stories about Anne 😂

I wondered a lot about Paul, like is he naturally just a teacher's pet or (more likely) does he have a crush on Anne. I'd guess crush because he went out of his way running around the forest to find her and give her some flowers he picked. I wonder if he's going to end up hating Gilbert if he ends up getting with Anne, he might get another slate broken over his head 🤣

Concerning Lorenzo, ”mean” can also mean ”cheap” as in higly reluctant to spend money. I don’t think we’re supposed to see him as particularly nasty person, just a man who under normal circumstances would be difficult to persuade to give donations.

It’s just a less common usage of the word these days compared to when the book was written.
