Anne Shirley has entered the next stage of her life! Even without Matthew, Green Gables is still standing and Anne is ready to begin her life as Avonlea's teacher! Everyone has grown up and Marilla has even upgraded to glasses!
Another thing that's changed is now Gilbert is fully in Anne's life, and Diana and Jane already ship them together, though rather than flirting both are committed to improving Avonlea! What crusaders, these young men and women are.
Is Anne ready to be a teacher? I mean, the legend of all the hijinks she got into as a kid will probably be following her into the classroom now that she's teaching at her hold stomping grounds. She even just accidentally sold off her neighbors' cow after a fight with them. Never change Anne Shirley, never change.
Dang, it's the first day of school and all the kids are just staring daggers at Anne like they're waiting for her to screw up or impress them! There's even Anthony, a relation to Josie, which should tell you all you need to know about him. But thanks to young Paul Irving breaking the ice, Anne is able to get to educating these Heroes and Literary Giants of the Future! Everything is going great outside the boys causing mischief and teasing the girls. And poor Anne can't lecture and scold them about being gentleman when she got into so much trouble when she was a kid. But hey, Paul totally has a crush on her, so there's that.
The Avonlea Improvement Society is dedicated to raising money to improve things around Avonlea, starting with Avonlea Hall! People may think they're a frivolous organization, so it's up to them to go door-by-door to raise money and show people what they're really about! So of course Anne and Diana take on the hardest neighborhoods first.
Starting with Eliza and Catherine! Two sisters, one a complete cynic, the other the absolute optimist. Anne usually wouldn't lose to a cynic, but Eliza just had to go and bring up how Anne and Diana's moms are having medical problems. At least Catherine still gave them some money because she believes in them.
Next up is Dan Blair, who is henpecked by his wife but when alone and stuck making a cake in an apron for said wife is more than open to Anne and Diana's offer after they help him bake a cake! Then it's clean freak Mrs. White who is so obsessed with a cleanly house that Anne and Diana can barely keep their laughter to themselves! Then it's Lorenzo who is in such a great mood after the birth of his latest baby that he'll one-up everyone else who paid Anne and Diana! Too bad they struck out with Mr. Harrison though, not from lack of interest but because he just doesn't have the money to spare. Though finding out he and his parrot Ginger think Anne is a "redheaded snippet" wasn't nice.
Today wasn't a perfect day by any stretch of the imagination, but Anne and Diana got through it and made some money and that counts for a lot.
Anne and Gilbert can now commiserate over their shared teaching experiences and their shared motivations...Gilbert is now driven to become a doctor for the sake of both people like his father and the parents of children who are too sick to be with their kids. Anne plans to make the world more beautiful around her, and Gilbert already knows how beautiful she makes his life!
