We are finally at the second book, where Anne is now a teacher at Avonlea School. Even with the recent loss of Matthew, life continues and Anne must move on. Teaching is quite a hard job especially for primary schoolers, right, Anne?

Interesting that at 16 years old Anne, Gilbert and others of their age are starting to become more involved in the community. To be fair, they are now considered adults, and thus members of the society. This is surely a product of their time, since presently a 16 year old is not yet an adult. Them forming the Village Improvement Society is quite a nice start, though of course donations can't be forced from members of their community.

Well, now Gilbert and Anne are now close to each other. In just three months from barely speaking to each other, they are now just alone together. At this rate, Gilbert is quite falling more and more to Anne, especially with his monologue in the last scene.

Man, it's so surreal seeing all the gang we watched as kids enter into adulthood and do adult things like driving carriages, having jobs, changing up their wardrobe to look more mature, and trying to better their community.

Of course even if she's older now all the shenanigans Anne got into as a kid are still following her around. I can imagine Josie made sure Anthony was aware of every crazy thing Anne did in school lol.

I really like how Anne and Gilbert just talk so naturally together now (and her friends have noticed). Like instead of avoiding each other they just gravitate towards each other to talk about everything from the Improvement Society to their ideals, and inspiring each other not out of rivalry but in a shared desire to do good.

Gilbro wanting to be a doctor is so noble of him, especially knowing why he wants to do it (so many families have been torn apart by illness and injury... and also ignorance lol). He and Anne are great together. Sucks he lost so much time with Anne because she was beefing with him, but better late than never!

A.V.I.S. is also well-intentioned, but like another comment said, my very first thought about it was "Ah, the original HOA". I don't blame the villagers for being skeptical, even if it's mostly stubbornness/cynicism just for the sake of it.

From the very beginning, Gilbert and Anne were special to each other. The fact that they didn’t talk was actually a sign of how much they cared. If they hadn’t meant something to each other, their reaction would have been indifference, not deliberately avoiding conversation.

Yes, I have heard a saying that the opposite of liking is not hating, but not caring.
