From promotional materials on Gundaminfo this wasn’t Nyaan’s first time piloting an MS. She escaped her previous colony on a small MS and eventually arrived side 6, a neutral zone. Her Newtype powers might be manifested in a kill or be killed situation, hence her ‘freedom’ is different from that of Machu’s. She’s one powerful pilot though, being able to pilot two MSs at once and even scared the crap out of Haro.

Some may have misinterpreted Machu’s shock at the end of last episode as a thirst to kill. It’s explained clearly this episode she’s uncomfortable with Shuji’s kill. She seemed to sense Nyaan’s bloodthirst after the battle too.

Things are looking to get exciting next episode onwards with Kycilia and presumably Gihren on the field. I was probably right on my comment on episode 3 that Challia didn’t care much about Xavier despite being nice to him on the surface. He knew well Xavier couldn’t activate Omega psychommu (hence was shocked when Machu activated it) yet he sent him out against Red Gundam.

That's why Machu's the MC. As bold, brash, and confident as she is, she's not the type who is going to go on a power high killing spree like Nyaan might if you leave her in the Gundam.

In the end, Machu is an upper middle class rich girl that hasn't really faced much hardship. The reality of the situation she's in slapped her in the face, but it's completely by her own choice at this point.
