Thought the third Black Tri-Star died in the OYW, but what happened is that he got successful and left behind the other two, while they have to live as unfulfilled dead-end junk traders. This is an even worse betrayal of MAVs than if he had died.
It is very funny that this is our first introduction to Xavier in this episode. That's our Xavier-kun.
Comoli thinks Challia Bull hates Xavier while he says that he believes in the little Newtype, this feels very Newtype. While on the topic of the commander, they are setting him up to be dangerous. Maybe something to do with the assassination plot next episode. (Nooo, I don't want the green man to be evil...)

the FederationSide 6!Onto the main topic of the episode, Nyaan learns about kira-kira by getting in the Gundam. Certainly wasn't expecting that to happen. At first, it was "Poor Nyaan" but then it became Nyaan scary. She discovered kira-kira and finally experienced freedom. Now she knows, she certainly won't have it taken away from her. Machu's friends are turning out to be scary people.
Machu does like she is feeling distant from the people she wants to be near. Shuji is a faraway person from her and now Nyaan is showing that she is going somewhere that leaves Machu behind the other two. The scene with the three of them taking off their clothes to feel the embrace of the universe, Shuji is the one constantly in that state, Nyaan quickly is in tune, but Machu is the lagging one trying to catch up. While other two are feeling freedom in space in battle, Machu is locked in a tiny confined space in the locker.
This ending shot is so evil. It conveys that conflict so well. Machu is watching her freedom slip through her fingers. In the Gundam as body analysis, Machu is watching what represents herself no longer be hers. Even worse, there is the second knife of her Clan Battle persona be taken away from her. Nyaan is literally dressed up as Machu. Machu is watching herself no longer be herself.
Other minor observations:
It's Saturn Donuts. I don't believe Saturn has been brought into the picture much in UC. Jupiter is basically the distant frontier in this setting. Jupiter is where you get Newtypes from Challia Bull, but if you go even farther beyond that, it's donuts.
I know it is a silly name, I'm doing a bitOh, we get to see some of the outfits from the character sheets. Love the Haro itabag that Machu carries the little orb in.
The jokes about Machu looking at Shuji with indecent eyes ended up being true.
Machu properly folds up her clothes. What a good kid. Mom would be proud.
Nyaan calls Shuji, "Shu-chan" which I think is cute.
I've noticed in this first episode, but it is interesting to me that the control to the Omega Psycommu looks like hands. You're holding hands when you control the Gundam.
The thing on the back of the Dom is not just a jet booster, it looks like they just slapped a third Dom leg on the back for extra thrust. It would be funny if they used the legs of the third ex-partner's Dom.
