Last week we talked about how that ED feels strange after what happened in the episode. And this time... I'm having question if this is yuri bait or not.

I feel like Machu and Nyaan's relationship is central to the show, in relation to their friendship contrasted with a possible budding rivalry as Newtypes/pilots or over Shuji.

(Wait, is Nyaan going to become the Char Clone...?)

I doubt there's much of a rivalry at least from Nyamu's side. She's more interested in Machu than Shu. Her fascination with the Kira-Kira was because she wanted to experience what Machu does, probably to feel closer to her. Her motivation to get into the cockpit was to help Machu, and the first thing she does after the battle was to get to Machu.

Her taking her clothes off seemed also more like a cock-fight with Shu. Plus, she uses him as a human shield. That's pretty symbolic of how she might see him.

So Nyaan is chasing Machu, Machu is chasing Shuji, and Shuji chases the Red Gundam.

And the Red Gundam probably chases some guy with a mother.

That being said, while the story leans more toward Machu/Shuji at the moment, Shuji's survival probability isn't exactly high. If the story becomes a tragedy then it's Machu/Shuji. If it's a happy or bitter-sweet ending, then Machu/Nyan. I still think that Machu and Nyan should be able to migiate their worse tendencies whereas Shuji would be an enabler.
