From promotional materials on Gundaminfo this wasn’t Nyaan’s first time piloting an MS. She escaped her previous colony on a small MS and eventually arrived side 6, a neutral zone. Her Newtype powers might be manifested in a kill or be killed situation, hence her ‘freedom’ is different from that of Machu’s. She’s one powerful pilot though, being able to pilot two MSs at once and even scared the crap out of Haro.

Some may have misinterpreted Machu’s shock at the end of last episode as a thirst to kill. It’s explained clearly this episode she’s uncomfortable with Shuji’s kill. She seemed to sense Nyaan’s bloodthirst after the battle too.

Things are looking to get exciting next episode onwards with Kycilia and presumably Gihren on the field. I was probably right on my comment on episode 3 that Challia didn’t care much about Xavier despite being nice to him on the surface. He knew well Xavier couldn’t activate Omega psychommu (hence was shocked when Machu activated it) yet he sent him out against Red Gundam.

That's why Machu's the MC. As bold, brash, and confident as she is, she's not the type who is going to go on a power high killing spree like Nyaan might if you leave her in the Gundam.

Its pretty unique for gundam imo. W most gundam MCs, theyre in a setting where killing is a necessity to survive and get through hard times. But we arent in hard times, and these killings arent necessary. But for newtypes, killing is just second nature to them. Its a careless byproduct of their nature for victory in the battlefield. So machu is rightfully hung up here on this senseless death. Even if, in reality, its still a little more complex than it seems at face value.

That is being very harsh on newtypes and not really supported in-universe so far. We have noble newtypes who despise brutality (even though they might be okay with violence), such as Bull (so far), Xavier, Machu herself is abhorred by how far both Shuji (who has virtually zero control as he is a medium/mind-dominated by Red Comet) and Nyaan (who is not a newtype really, but really angry and repressed and about to explode into everyone's face).

I don't think we have enough to spin it into "Newtypes evil".
